I realize no one knows for sure, but this Motor Trend article from a couple months ago gives me hope...

https://www.motortrend.com/news/2024-ford-ranger-first-look-review/

"Ford will offer the Ranger as a four-door SuperCrew with 5-foot bed for its initial release. No timeline for the SuperCab (extended-cab) and 6-foot bed availability or ordering was given, but this fleet darling is coming. Therefore all the details Ford's provided so far are for the SuperCrew—there are no specifics for cab and bed dimensions, or payload for the SuperCab just yet."

Thoughts?

I have seen no mention of a SCab in the future from any other publication. Personally, no supercab is a deal-breaker for me.

Forgot to mention - if a SCab is offered and Ford sticks to the same GVWR as the SCrew, this would give some very impressive payload numbers (assuming ~90 lb curb weight difference, as seen on the current generation).
~1900 lbs payload for 4x2 SCab
~1800 lbs payload for 4x4 SCab

That would be exceptional and is well into half ton territory. The 4x4 payload would especially be a substantial improvement over the 5G.

I'll keep my fingers crossed...

I'm in the same boat as you. ford will lose my money again if there is no SCAB. Just like 2012 - 2019 without a smaller truck offering. personally I want a little smaller than my ranger now and 6G is slightly bigger so who knows. it might be a colorado next if they decide to to offer extended cab.

Hopefully they will go the other way and get rid of that pesky ( totally uncovered and out in the weather ) "bed space" and maybe get some more room in the back for the rear passengers and all their carry on stuff , or a 3rd row would be a nice touch for todays truck buyers ...

Are you talking about the Ford Everest available overseas?

If I remember correctly, the SCAB wasn't available when the 5G initially came to NA. Neither was a Tremor version, as well as no Tremor (yet) with 6G. But there is a 6G Ranger Raptor, so maybe that will kill 6G Tremor. Also, ROW can get a regular cab 6G Ranger, I seriously doubt that come to NA.

Im talking about the ridiculousness of the upside down world of 4 door family cab "Trucks" being somehow the norm and getting all the best trims and options and we have to play "wait and see" if there is enough stuff left over to make a proper truck with a somewhat usable bed... imo ... and the humble part too... (A Ranger RAPTOR and its a 4 door ? A crime against our car guy forefathers is what that is ... again , all humble and stuff )

I personally find the 5G Ranger to be "just small enough." Other than length (~7" longer), it isn't that much different than the 2011 model. Even though the 5G looks way bigger, most dimensions are within 1-2 inches.

My biggest problem with the 6G ranger is the increased width. Just for reference:

Width (excluding mirrors):
2011 Ranger - 71.3"
19-23 Ranger - 73.3"
24+ Ranger - 75.5"

2011 F150 - 79.2" (+7.9")
19-23 F150 - 79.9" (+6.6")
2023 F150 - 79.9" (+4.4")

Kinda crazy that the difference in width between a 2023 and 2024 Ranger is greater than the difference between a 2011 and 2019. IMO, this is getting too close to F150 territory.

I'm happy the overall length of the 6G is virtually identical to the 5G. The mildly lengthened wheelbase for the 6G makes sense, given the 2011 model had a wheelbase within 1" of the 5G. I think this is a net positive for approach / departure / general driving characteristics / towing stability with very few trade offs.

Still, though...I can't get over the significant width increase.

They had to make the Ranger bigger to make room for the Maverick. The Ranger is still a lot smaller than a F150 and I’m reminded of that every time I park beside one.

I have owned my 5G Screw for more than a year and the only passengers in that time have four legs, so a Scab would have been a better choice.

As others have posted, my next Ranger will be a Scab (if I change trucks at all). If the 6G comes out in Scab, it likely will get the nod when the time comes for an upgrade.

A 6G Scab Tremor probably would have me down at the dealer negotiating a deal as soon as I could put one on order.

I too would love a PHEV version, given the number of very short trips we take. It would really cut down on the increased wear and tear on the IC side from the large percentage of short trips we take, but I won't hold my breath on that one.

They probably had to make it bigger so it would meet the next round of CAFE requirements in '25.

Interesting point about the Maverick...it is only 0.7" narrower than the 5G Ranger. Granted, it is significantly shorter but that's why the bed is only 4.5' long.

Agreed. Honestly, a Tremor SCab seems like the perfect truck to me. Disappointing it's not available anywhere in the Tremor lineup (Ranger, F150, SD).

As a single senior, a SuperCab is the only sensible option for me. I'll be disappointed if they discontinue them. Although I'll probably drive my 2019 until the wheels fall off. ?
