I live in San Diego. I am an engineer, and my next door neighbor (also an engineer) had three brand new Dodge mini van’s (hybrids) out front of his house before COVid so I wandered over to ask. A month later told me the technologies standards had been approved by all the governmental and private groups on the two way flow of electricity.
The original goal was for the hybrids to be able to do this. I fully understand a hybrid mini van, but a full electric, never in my mind. The standard was for the hybrid would plug in and turn it’s engine on as needed and then later charge the batteries off the “grids excess”, at some time. The car market seems to have shifted to total electric, but the standard is in place, so that is good. The fact that the FEDERAL government made a standard for plug in’s that did not accept the Tesla standard, THEN all the companies have signed agreements to use it. . . .
So, you pay for your gas, but then give electric power back to the state ???
Let me guess...they don't pay you for the electric......
But you get to charge back from the "excess" ??? At some time !!!!! When is that 2057 ?
You have got to be kidding !!!!!!!

But, the dildo's run on batteries, which are electric....hay, I know a way to give back some of that electric to the yo-yo's who thought it up ....

It all goes through your power meter, and with the complex metering schemes, you get to pay the utility company employees pensions.. . .

That actually is against the law. You can only use an EV for a max of 90 days for temporary power of a home according to codes. I guess some were doing that and using free charge stations at supermarkets and dealerships to have free power.
In California? I wouldn't be surprised, but I'm skeptical. You'd never be able to track that.

This reminded me of an old article I read about how to build an electric-outputting pedal bike (the stationary exercise kind). You could power little things with it like Charlton Heston does in the movie Soylent Green, but you could also plug it into an electrical outlet and run your power meter backwards. I wonder if that still works. I would assume that kind of thing would just blow a fuse but I only ever pretended to be an electrician, never actually was one.

I don't think that's possible with the digital meters.
Our electric just installed new smart meters that can be read remotely. You can log in and see your daily usage. But that also means they can shut your power off remotely, too.

As for selling excess power back to the electric company. My understanding is that they only pay you what it would cost them to generate electricity, not what you would have paid for it. So, in my area, my rate is 9.5 cents per kwh. They pay you 6 cents per kwh that you feed back to the grid.

Not being able to track something or enforce a law, never stops the elected elite in Sacramento from passing a law. A measurable portion of the laws passed in Sacramento are for political statement purposes, not because something is broken.

I'm still waiting for the earthquake that was going to slide California into the sea my mother warned me about when I almost took a job offer in California and moved there 50 years ago. She was right but it wasn't an earthquake. Glad I listened.

I was born and raised in CA and spent most of my adult life there (when I wasn't living outside the country). We raised our now grown woman daughter in San Francisco. When we decided to move to Idaho, most of our friends told us, "Idaho? Are you crazy?" The very same people now say, "where are the good places to live in Idaho?" We always say, "there are no good places to live here, better stay put". :)

I'm still trying to understand their statement about future "excess"....when is that gonna happen ???
They have no water, no electricity to spare. The only thing they have an "excess" of are water and power shortages, fires, earthquakes, traffic, outrageous fuel prices, and people.
Heck, they have more people in one city than in the entire state of Virginia !!!

I live in California and I will spare you a long rant because you probably would already know and agree with what I’m saying.

First of all, I feel like I shouldn’t be so damn jaded, I mean, I am just 40… All these kids think I’m 25 with the baby face… hell, my facial hair is so I look older in my business world.

These money, grabbers are already planning for their forced EV populace, and how to replenish the incredible record, high gas, taxes, making sure not to miss out on them. No worries, tax based on the odometer readings.

I mean, of course they probably didn’t notice or think about it until way late, but can you put everybody on electric and if no one’s buying gas is they aren’t paying here obscene gas taxes. Oh, and it’s supposed to go to the road but I roads absolutely

Pelosi is quite terrible… Rich AF, and her being related to Newsom is not a great thing. He absolutely ruined San Francisco, he’s hell-bent on ruining California, and he definitely will run for the presidency at some point.

Hey Newsom, thanks for just handing out the one surplus we’ve had in California in a long time. I’m sure you’ll get the crew who loves to be given things!

Just another reason to avoid visiting the country of California !!!
Next they will probably be setting up monitoring stations at all roads leading into Ca to see if you have enough fuel as they most likely won't sell any of theirs's to out of country visitors.
