OEM FX4 shocks kaput at 35k miles. Bilstein 5100 all around, re-using OE top hats and springs in front. Better than new! They aren't at a level of Eibach or King or Icon etc, but they're fine for this truck and about $1000 installed, so way cheaper than the premium models. 9/10 recommend.

I can't remember exactly, but I don't think I paid much more than that if any for my Eibach's installed. (I installed the rear myself, super simple.)

Congrats. Seems like a fair price. Anything is better than the stock FX4s ;)

So, for the millionth time on this poor forum, I'm gonna ask about shocks ...

I have a 2WD XL and suffer the bounciness everyone else has from the rear end. I don't do off-road, it's all paved driving (except for when I access the city's secret dump spot for construction materials, all of a 100 yard nicely graveled road).

Turning out of a parking lot I'm turned into a human bobblehead. =D

So would these be good rear shocks for a pavement pounding Ranger?

I don't mind going more expensive if it's a better ride. These are $206 which seems reasonable but another hundred or so won't kill me (but it could affect @AzScorpion's graphene sales). =p

Nothing wrong with Bilsteins, I put them on the same level as Koni's.

Those will be fine, but if you are keeping stock ride height, I would save a few dollars and go with the 4600 series.

great upgrade and well worth the money! In a couple decades when the current wow factor brands that parking lot princesses and sema showers are sporting are made in China- and poor quality, they will selling on the old brand name reputation- (think Rancho). Bilstein will still be a good quality product and found on some of the most demanding applications in the world. id bet still made in germany or north america too.

Thanks for that great endorsement. It sure looks like an easy mod to make and the 4600 look to be perfect for my dump runs! =D

By the way, if anyone else has recommendations, I'm still all ears.

We would like to tow a travel trailer but I don't think that automatically means the 5100s. From the videos I watched last night, the 4600s seem ideal.

Thanks everybody! This is the best forum ever! =D

I too went Bilstein 5100 all around. I love them. Way better ride than OEM. Before with even 2023 shocks (less than 3k miles) I would go over a pothole and really feel it. Now, same pothole, hardly notice it at all. Good investment, I think.

I try to dodge potholes when I can.
But I know in some places you're required to choose between the severity of potholes you have to drive over.
