This was also my experience with 4x4 Lariat (non-FX4). I installed Bilstein 5100s all’s round and it made this go away - that side-to-side bucking is gone. It’s still a truck ride but very pleased. The rear ended is easy but the front was more difficult. If I were to do it again, I would do one with a front full coilover instead such as Eibach or Fox.
I'm going to second this opinion. The Bilstein 5100's are a nice, economical upgrade but I do wish I had gone further with a full coilover set. The Bilstein 5100's though are just fine for the street if you dont plan to offroad at all.

Hmmmm. Sounds like a tail gate damper problem to me???

I haven’t done my shocks yet - maybe this year - was going to at least put the Bilstiens in the back to start. I personally don’t mind the ride in my non FX4 4x4 but everyone else in the family hates it. But if it means I can buy things for the truck that has been sanctioned by my spouse - I can’t complain.
