I've been dealing with a persistent rattle in my passenger seat. I had gone through all the threads and none of the causes applied. Not seat belt, not the base being loose (TSB), not a headrest spring.

Rattle occurred during engine start or standard driving when a passenger wasn't in the seat.

I had my daughter drive while I was in the back and was able to pinpoint the sound to the left side of the seat back about halfway down. Putting a little pressure on the seat back would stop it.

I pulled the seat cover up and was able to isolate it down to the lumbar support cable assembly.

If you decide to go into the seat, unhook your battery. There's an airbag in the right-hand side of the seat, and you'll need to unhook the connectors under the seat. You won't really be near it, but it's a good idea to disconnect power since you'll be working with the connector.

Where the tensioner cable attaches to the seat frame pivots, partly due to the loose attachment of the motor to the lumbar assembly with one zip tie. This pivoting makes a rattle noise.

I took some velcro (fuzzy side) and put it on both sides of where the metal bar hits the frame. Be very careful here. The frame is super sharp!

I reattached the motor using two zip ties.

The sound is now gone. I was about to lose my mind. One thing that occured to me is that I never adjusted the lumbar to see if the noise went away. I suggest trying that, and if it does, this might be the issue.

Correct. Didn’t take much of a bump at all.

For Reference: Did they check this TSB for Seat Rattle
See attached:

Plus: With my 22, If I have a front seat passenger, when they get out and the seat belt retracts it hangs somewhat on the seat causing the seatbelt buckle to be angled just enough to rattle against the pillar - Fix is to straighten out the belt to allow full retract, so that the buckle is flat, and rattle disappears. Now I just have to get the wife trained to do it when she exits the truck, so I don't have to do it.

For sure, check out that TSB and make sure they check that. Also check to make sure your seatbelt buckle (both sides) aren't rattling against things. I worked through all that before I resorted to tearing into the seat.

From what I can tell, the TSB is related to the base and track components. I could stop my noise by putting pressure against the TOP part of the seat. In my case, the noise could be pinpointed to the mid left-hand side of the seat back.

I've had this noise on my pass front seat for over a year now and I never got around to looking at it till today. I don't have lumbar support on mine so I knew it wasn't that. Ended up being the headrest and also realized the driver side does it as well. The non locking side of the head rest just slides in. Nothing holding on to it. So it rattles around in the hole. The locking side is held in so it doesn't move as much. I'm going to wrap masking tape around it for now to see if that actually makes the rattle sound go away. In the mean time I'll think of more tasteful permanent solution.
