Hi all,

I have a 2020 XLT Ford Ranger with the FX4 and Black appearance packages.
I'm looking to install a winch for use when helping people recover their vehicles when on the beach and on light offroad trails.
I want a winch mount that leaves the vehicle looking mostly factory, for this I'm looking at the 589 Fabrications Hidden Winch Mount.
While the mount doesn't support adaptive cruise control I've looked at several relocation brackets (however availability seems limited, as an example the fab fours bracket no longer seems to be available.

The one issue i'm looking at though is most of these brackets relocate behind the grille. This normally wouldn't be an issue however my truck has the blackout appearance package and the grille has much thinner slats/openings. I'm curious has anyone tried relocation with this grill (pictures below)? If so did it work well and what relocation bracket did you use?

While I cannot speak for relocation brackets, I do want to point out that the radar as you see it, is actually behind relatively thick plastic already. The radar itself is much smaller than the black square below your front plate and the plastic serves as a protector for the radar that is much easier to clean. I doubt you would have any interference/false positives by moving it from one piece of plastic to another.

Oh? I was under the impression that the two circles directly under the license plate were some form of camera/sensor. They look to be lenses. This can function through plastic? (Honest question, I just want to make sure I understand correctly).

I am not certain what those 2 circles are, but they don't look like parking sensors. I did not have those on my 21 Lariat with CoPilot 360. That is worth inspecting further to see if any wires run to them, or if they're part of the mount.

For reference, the camera used for lane keeping and precollision is located between your windshield and rear view mirror. I do not think these circles are sensors, but like I said, I did not have them on my 21.

I don't think they are related to any systems in the truck. I have a 2021 Lariat with the BAP and ACC, etc and I don't have those two circles (the ones right until the T and N in Tonkin). I wonder if they are part of your front license plate bracket? You look to have a front plate bracket that is different from mine. Here's mine:

So feeling like i'm a bit crazy now because these have been on my truck since I got it. Seeing the 2 lenses in the pictures of other people who moved ACC I thought they were one and the same but after seeing your picture and UnregisteredHypercam2's response I'm like "oh man what the heck".

So I walk outside and lay by the bumper looking up,... and these things are not connected to ANYTHING. They appear to be two plastic shells that are 3m taped to the underside of the trim near the license plate. Not an attached part other than double stick.

Soooo confused what they are now. Here's a picture of one pulled off if you're curious.

Sorry for second guessing you Hyper.

Edit: So looking at it I figured air would pass through it. Wondered "that must do something at speed maybe its some kind of crappy sound mod". So I blew through it... Sure enough it whistles!

I got on amazon and searched "train whistle car adhesive" figured some jerk probably wanted the truck to be noisy. According to amazon it's a deer whistle (to prevent deer from jumping in front of the vehicle,.. I have my doubts on it working but who knows).

Mystery solved!!!

I know some people that swear by those deer whistles.

I hit a deer between Redmond and Sisters in my Subaru Impreza in 2012 at 50mph. The deer was killed. My car racked up $9,100 in repairs (in 2012 dollars).

Glad we solved that mystery. Fwiw, I have a coworker who bought his FX4 ranger just to daily and use for hog hunting. Maybe previous owner of yours was a hunter?

It's possible. I live just outside portland and take 2 hour drives out to the coast regularly which take me through some interstate road with deer. Wouldn't be surprised if they took the same roads for weekend trips.

Actually part of why I want the winch is I've on several occassions used my recovery straps to help people I've found stuck on the beach, or off trails. I like being able to help others (and to be able to help myself if I get stuck).
