Ok again, you leave AZ to SD and go out for Mexican food ? My stepson became a cook at Mexican restaurant here in SoCal about 8 months ago. Since he’s upped their game! It’s a well established place already for real Mexican food 20 plus years I’ve been going there. Unless you know the old ways it can be really a mess. At least you lived through it ?
? I know but believe it or not we had some of the best Mexican food when we were in Columbia Falls, Montana. o_O

Now going out for steaks and beers I figured that'd be a better choice. I wasn't expecting much in the way of finding a good MX place but it we were pleasantly surprised how great was. Plus Annie being Mexican she's a lot more picky than I am and she really loved it. Good thing because it was on her birthday too. :whew:

I'll have to pick up that book next time we're back that way. I doubt I can do much off roading on the way to Pagosa because my truck is packed with all our stuff. Also, after a month on the road Annie has packed it even more with souvenirs junk. ?‍♂

Once we dump our stuff off at the resort that might be a possibility. We'll be there from Saturday afternoon 'til Wednesday morning. It was a last minute plan (like 10:00 pm last night lol) because she doesn't have to go back to work until Thursday. Plus we want to checkout more of CO and see where we can spend more time on next years vacation.
I will add they have books for AZ as well. Plenty to explore out there

Tell me about the area. I was looking at our trip route home and seeing as Annie doesn't have to be back to work until Thursday I was thinking of taking a little detour and extending our trip there. I heard it's a really nice area but know of nothing to do in the area besides Chimney Rock National Monument. Any help would be appreciated!
Hi Dave,

Been through the area many times on our Ford development trips.. Worth the drive...

Best,
Phil

So if you don't mind a little bit extra travel getting to Pagosa I recommend heading north from Colorado City towards Salida. You will get off at Coaldale and get on Hayden Pass. It will take you to Villa Grove Wich is on the north side of the San Luis Valley. Definitely a nice drive and Money Pit #2 will handle it. I have taken the old Ranger and my Pathfinder there. Takes a little to do but worth the drive. Just make sure you air down!!

Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park is very nice, but it is on the eastern side of the valley up against the western side of the Sangre de Cristo mountains... Nice wide shallow creek runs right up the the dunes, the highest in North America. They actually seem quite out of place.

Thanks, I did see it on the map and Chris had mentioned it too. Can you drive through there? One big problem is that Annie has trouble walking without falling on hard ground. No way she'd make it 2' without hurting herself in soft sand.

I don't think I've been to Taco Bell since high school. ??:puke:
A coworker of mine informed me that it's all the same stuff, just a different shape

Unfortunately you cannot drive through this one. On beside it. There is a huge set of dunes on the north side you can drive through, but you need a bunch of extra fuel(LRA Tank?) Since the nearest gas station is a while away.
