Hi everyone! Just picked up a new to me 2019 XLT. Everything is fantastic except the backup camera is trashed. This is a CPO and I have an appointment with the selling dealer but that is not until mid June based on how backed up they are. When we test drove it was raining and we figured it was wet. But now it appears to be wrecked in scratches.

I tried headlight polish, toothpaste, olive oil and nothing seems to help.

Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks!

That would be normally covered under 3yr/36k but if the dealer is reasonable, I do not see why they would not replace it being that it is a CPO vehicle.

Warranty covers defects. That's not a defect. Somebody intentionally scratched that.

OP, I'd let the selling CPO dealership take care of it.

Thanks everyone. Not sure how this actually happened. I am going to have the selling dealership replace either way, just wanted to try to find a workaround for the next month. Shouldn't of passed CPO like this, but of course I live in the PNW and it rains every other day so they probably just were oblivious to it. I've already put like $10 into it and at this point just let them deal with it.

T.C. has your dealer said they would replace it and won't be able to get to it until June or that they won't be able to look at it until your appointment time? If the later, then either send them the pictures or take it by there....they may have to order the part which could or could not take awhile to come in (adding more time for the fix).

They can't look til June. I live about an hour and 45 away from there, so it's not an easy trip. I am going to try to stop by sometime this month for a quick look and have them order it.

I never cease to be amazed by the damage people manage to do to their own cars. Was the former owner cleaning it off with a pocket knife? I once saw a 1 year old car that looked like it was driven through a briar bush on a daily basis.

Was it a repo that someone could have damaged on purpose? Never seen a lens look like that before. Lots of them showing up in auctions lately. Dealer should replace it under the warranty provided. Be sure to go over everything if lt takes that long to get an appointment.
