Haven't gotten one from Sirius for quite awhile, but I got an extended warranty notice a few weeks ago- hit 30k mi. I have a 10/150 B2B thru Allstate.

Damn that’s pretty good. I’ve thought about adding the extra insurance but I’ll have to price stuff out. I’m not sure how ford insurance compares to my auto insurance company for warranty claims (USAA).

My TH350 in my 65 truck has the fluid routed through the engine radiator to warm it up sooner. Do they do that with the Ranger?

Not exactly. It’s in the antifreeze coolant loop. Heat exchanger on the drivers side of the transmission

I went with the Allstate which I bought from my dealer's F & I guy. It was 25 k mi longer coverage and had the same features and $100 ideductable (could've gotten $200-1000 ded). It cost around $50-60 more than the Ford warranty, but it 's honored everywhere not just Ford dealers.

The only thing I'll add is that when the truck is still in warm-up phase the torque converter doesn't lock, so RPM's are a little higher for a given speed until the driveline hits the right temp and the PCM commands lockup.

I don't generally warm up my truck, so I don't know if a few minutes of warmup will get it past that phase or not. Generally takes me a couple miles from cold start before mine gets warm enough.
That is for the info. I do notice that if I remote start mine and it runs for 5-10 minutes it seems to help a bit. I use that scheduled start button in the app on weekdays since it’s been cold out. When it’s warmer I may not use it.

I’ll have to call my company and see if they offer anything. I’ve read that there are a few good deals on the ford insurance directly through them. There are times when I think taking the truck to a private well reviewed/trusted shop is the best bet.

If you found yourself here reading this I’ll first start off and say this is a Ford Ranger forum, get your filthy minds out of the gutter. ?

Anyway I posed this question the Phil, so I’ll ask everyone so you can all take turns telling me either how dumb I am (most likely) or you’re gonna blow yourself up if you keep driving (not as likely).

So why when cold do my RPMs rev up much higher (louder as well) than normal when shifting from first to third? I’ve been using the remote start since I got the truck and it’s been very cold. When I dont remote start the first two minutes of shifting when 1st to 3rd, with light to moderate pedal pressure has the truck see 3000 + ish rpm’s. RPMs seem to hang a bit. I wouldn’t say any harsh shifts, maybe some jumpy downshifts and firm up shifts but nothing I’m concerned with. I really noticed this today when hoping back in my truck from a 10-15 minute stop at the gas station. Figured truck was still warmed up since I drove home an hour and this stop was after that. But turned truck on and took off maybe 20-30 seconds later with first revving really high before going to third. No hard shift, firm but felt like I was almost in neutral it even though I had normally pedal pressure. Also much louder but wondering if that may be the cooling fan?”
If you’re still reading this, I sincerely apologize ?. You could be off fishing or something rather than here, listening to my dumb, long drawn out question.

Also, if this is normal why exactly do these trucks do this. I’d like to understand the mechanism of why this happens so I can be slightly less ignorant. My older trucks did this a little bit but not as pronounced as this truck. Larger transmission?Again no lurching, shifts were normal for a “cold truck”.
I'm sorry, what was the question, I couldn't get past the title...??‍?

Seriously, on a cold start and go at times I get just a slight "lurch" going from park to reverse but after that I haven't had any issues I've detected outside of normal. Not had the lurch if I've used remote start or just let it warm up for a minute or two

I’ve never had anything abnormal when going from park to reverse or anything I’ve noticed. Really just this truck acting “colder” than other vehicles I’ve driven in the past. My wife’s highlander I can put it into gear and go and it feels exactly like it does warm. This Ranger seems to rev up a bit more when cold and definitely shifts a bit better when warmed up. And yeah the title was to throw you all off.

@Msfitoy only difference is I’m still getting letters in the mail reminding me to extend my warranty.
These are from today. God when will they stop? I get 2-3 of each of these every week.

Turns out so does yours ?
The replacement comes with 3 year/unlimited mile warranty...so I should blow it before the end of 3 years and get a free replacement lol...

That you did, touche'! My f150 had the 10 speed and it lurched more often especially going from reverse to drive. Also had the driveline shudder that had a TSB on it, after they fixed the shutter and after about a year the transmission settled in, my F150 and Ranger saw very little miles for the 1st several years because I had a take home vehicle from the Sheriff's Office. The Ranger does it less and less often. When it was doing it most it was less than 10k miles and about 2 yrs old at that point. Only issue I have now (since the tune not sure if related) when I start it and go into drive the pre collision light and alarm goes off and the transmission studders a bit taking off and shifting. 1st time it happened I took it to the dealer , no codes thrown and couldn't duplicate the issue. It's done it every once in a while, went almost a year before the most recent event but each time I can park it and shut it off , open the door and let it sit for a minute or two, restart it and it's gone. Makes zero sense. It's done that when the truck had only sat an hour in the summer then other times for a couple of days in cold weather. It's never just done it on its own while cruising, at hwy speeds its a slow speed from a stop or turn .

Haha challenge accepted. The way I see it is I have two options
Option A: drive my truck responsibly and make it last
Option B: drive it like I stole it and do a good enough job so that I get all major items replaced before the 60k mile warranty runs out.
Ah choices.

Yeah these trucks seem to all have their quirks. My Silverado always had a burned out daytime running light. Never failed to go out a few weeks after I had replaced it. I ended up just giving up on the issue. I do have the start up shudder but it’s not bad enough to annoy me. I may address it once I’m finished with a few suspension changes I’m making. Overall I really enjoy this truck. Just takes a bit getting used to and I guess the main reason I’m questioning things is because this is the first “new” truck I’ve owned. I have more invested in this truck than any others I’ve had. First world problems I guess but I’ve worked to finally get to the point where I can buy a truck and put down the majority of the price. I probably could have afforded something more expensive but couldnt stomach the price of most full sized trucks these days. They’re severely overpriced. So needless to say, I question little things because I want this truck to last me. It’ll make a great first truck for one of my sons granted it lasts. This is my first Ford.
