It was after you and a couple of the HVAC issues that I decided to get one. Not worried about anything mechanical but the electronics can get pricey.
Absolutely. This is the first vehicle we’ve ever had an extended warranty on. I may never need it again, but peace of mind is worth a lot.

The bolded part is where it gets tricky. Sure if it's something small you can fix it out of pocket a lot cheaper and still come out ahead. But if the HVAC box goes that $2,500 right there and the BCM/PCM is going to cost you big bucks too. Tracy @Tracy Bowman unfortunately found that out the hard way and it cost here $2,000 out of pocket.

I've never bought an extended warranty in my life but I did buy one for my Ranger. There's way to much computerized stuff on there now and it doesn't take much to have a huge bill now a days. But it is just like gambling and I've never been good at it so there's that too. ?

BTW...your mom was wrong! ?
In the last 20 years I've bought 6 new vehicles from 3 different manfacturers. Not one has had a repair outside of warranty.

Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Average it out to $2k per warranty and I'm up $12k. That $12k would buy me a transmission, HVAC box, and a module or two.

I'm not a rich man. $12k is a lot of money to me. A little bit of peace of mind is not worth it to me.

Tell me about it, she was wrong about a lot of things.

And like casinos, the house always wins!
Not always.

So in a nut shell, some have it some think is a scam and didn’t know it but I must not know how to drive:rolleyes:. When it shifts from 1st to 3rd almost all the time and now and then bangs into a lower gear can’t be a good thing. My wife drove it a few times and even said something about it..
Any one else have a positive answer to fords extended warrantee?
Again, that is the factory shift profile in D. It is software, not hardware. Don't like the way your truck shifts in D? Get a tune or drive in Tow/Haul or Sport. If the transmission is "slamming" into gear than it's either cold or you have a problem you should check out.

This forum represents a VERY small minority of Ranger owners. And VERY few here have had major issues.

I look at it this way. My Ford ESP was $1600 for 8 yr 125K. So that's $200 per year, or $16.67 per month for peace of mind. Some people spend more than that on coffee.

Mine was $1200 for 8 yr / 100,000. Lots of you spend twice that for rims/tires, lift kits, bits n pieces.
But it's the only addition that will give you piece of mind. Averages out to $12.50 per month...less than a good pizza.

Pizza (like eggs) seems to be like gold around here. Last weekend we stopped to eat at this Italian place we like and their medium pizza was $24.00! The chicken parm dinner jumped up to $22.00 and it's not even that big.

Pizza at that price other than chain pizza is similar up here with mid $20's for medium. If I'm going to just pound a pizza I'll do Dominos $7.99 Large takeout.

Same here either Dominos or Pizza Hut which actually taste much better than the restaurants. Sadly the pizza out here is nasty! ?

I guess we're lucky...3 well known colleges in our area, lots of good pizza, best are several real wood fired pizza places...prices aren't too bad either.
They have to be good or they go out of business real quick....lousy pizza means no collage kids.

I'm spoiled because we had some great pizza (and other restaurants) back east. One area was predominantly Italians so there were so many great Italian places to dine at. Here they have no clue how to make a good pizza and good luck trying to find a restaurant that has any kind of good customer service. My realtor warned me about this 11 years ago and it's only got worse since. We're now down to 2 places we like to go that still give you a good meal and have good service at a fair price.

Hey Dave. If you like New York style pizza, check out Parry’s which is relatively new in Avondale. If on the east side of town, try Venezia’s (multiple locations) which is unbeatable.

Thanks! I'll look them up and have to give them a try, Avondale is right next to us.

Do we really think the transmission issue is that big of an issue? I think your over exaggerating this. 90% of "transmission issues" I see on this forum are people that don't know how to drive.

Call it what you want, scam, roulette, or blood money I'm too damn old to lay on the ground or under a dash board any more. I put multiple 5k mile road trips on in any given year. I don't want to be stuck in some.podunk town calling my credit card company to increase my credit.line to fix a car. I paid cash for both the truck and the warranty and figure that is peace of mind money.

I don't know if any of you have ever had to stay in a flea bag motel while.your car is being fixed. I have, along with my wife. I am not doing that again. So, I bought the truck as certified pre owned, bought the 8 year warranty and now if I break down in podunk USA, I'll just call the nearest Ford dealer and have them pick it up. I'll be at the nearest Hilton.
