Recommend you drive one. I've had both a F350 and F250 and the lightning is way better at accelerating, steering and stopping. Partly due to an extremely low center of gravity, and partly due to the use of braking through the electric motors acting as a standalone brake. Just driving in normal traffic I never touched the brake pedal. Much like a tesla it cab be single pedal operated. The vehicles aren't for everyone, but looking at how gas prices are trending it is an option for me as a second vehicle.
I really have no interest because it can't do what I need a truck for. Had a one ton that could do real truck stuff and could out accelerate most vehicles. But that was not why I would buy a truck. If I want to go fast I'll buy another Mustang (not electric) and save 50k to buy gas. And I can drive 1000 miles in a day if I need to. EV's are not close to being ready for primetime and need to mature a lot before they are practical. But I'm sure they are fun to drive and a cool conversation starter. For me that is not of any interest, but you enjoy!

I guess I never thought much about the weight difference when in an accident with a lighter vehicle. The F-150 Lightning EV pickup is 2,000 to 3,000 pounds heavier than the same model’s combustion version. The Mustang Mach E electric SUV and the Volvo XC40 EV, she said, are roughly 33% heavier than their gasoline counterparts. Looks like something else they (you know who) forgot to think about before pushing these out.

This has been a constant thought in my head. Especially that Hummer EV. These EVs are weighing 6,7,8000 lbs and accelerating 0-60 in 3.0-4.5 seconds. The ability of people to drive safely and control vehicles much slower and lighter is already questionable. Now these extremely heavy vehicles are being propelled 2-3 times faster than the gasoline cars. It’s a scary thought and could lead to increased fatalities and injury’s in collisions. I’m sure NHTSA is investing heavily into this research.

I would imagine the stopping distance is a bit longer unless the brakes are significantly beefed up.
Dont forget electric vehicles use Kinetic Energy Recovery.
They'll have more braking capacity than a equivalent conventional braked vehicle.
if driven carefully, driver seldom needs to use the brakes.

If they had their way, we'd all ride an electric moped manufactured by Nerf.

The problem is that everything is a compromise:
  • You want vehicles, then we mine for steel and petroleum
  • You want electric vehicles, then we mine for aluminum and titanium
  • You want to live in a house, then we cut lumber and mine coal and petroleum to make electricity.
  • You want to do away with all of that, then you live in a cave and are make the Amish look like tech giants.

I guess we can look at it as a tractor trailer now going up against just about any vehicle on the road now. Except (like you said) the new EV's are much faster and you'll have all this mass impacting that smaller vehicle. How has no one brought this up until now?

Just saw Mazda is bringing back the rotary engine as a generator for their hybrid vehicles. I think the Mx5 will have a 50 mile electric range and for longer trips the rotary engine generator will provide power to the electric motors for unlimited range with a 13 gallon tank. First hybrid where the motor is not part of the driveline.

These would be a great way to ease into full EV's. I'd love to have a PHEV Ranger that would get 50 miles on hybrid mode! My question is what do you do if most of your trips are short (50 miles or under) and there's gas in the tank. Treat it with 303 Stabil? This could be another money maker for me!!

I have been using your marine stabilizer for ethanol for a long time and it's good for 2 years. Just put a new label on it and market 1 ounce bottles.

Doing a little digging it looks like it's the MX30. They're not sure if they'll sell it here in the US but the CX30 is now available only in California. It would be nice to see more of these here in the US and others follow suit.

Mazda has not announced if it will sell this model in the United States, but the CX-30 is only available in California, where local regulations require automakers to deliver a certain percentage of zero-emissions models, while the extended range would make it more appealing to more customers.

I've always used their Stabil in all my yard eqpt. and snowblower when I was back in MA. Never had any problems will gelling or starting them up when using it. Most likely this will be the case for these too.
