I guess I never thought much about the weight difference when in an accident with a lighter vehicle. The F-150 Lightning EV pickup is 2,000 to 3,000 pounds heavier than the same model’s combustion version. The Mustang Mach E electric SUV and the Volvo XC40 EV, she said, are roughly 33% heavier than their gasoline counterparts. Looks like something else they (you know who) forgot to think about before pushing these out.

One of the 1st things that came to my mind when they started all of the EV push .

My wifes Mach E weights more then my Ranger. It also rolls super easy. We have it want to roll back up the driveway threshold all the time if the rear tires on in the gutter.

curb weight on the platinum lightning was 6855 pounds. The F350 crewcab diesel starts at over 7000 pounds. I'm way more scared by the F350 drivers.

The difference in a one ton is that it has brake and suspension capacity to haul 4000 pounds or tow 10 tons. So 95% of the time they are way under capacity. The Lightning is way closer to it's limits when empty.

A solution to every problem, the gov needs to step in and outlaw these cursed lighter vehicles, and at the same time allow for a ramped scale ( EVs only) the heavier the vehicle the greater the gov financed incentives. I am thinking of running for elected office and will make campaign stops in my 9000k + Hummer

Just think of all the heavy traffic backed up on questionable bridges.

They have not thought of the impact of having only EV's.
This is a good point. Not only large bridges either.. theres a handful of backroad bridges in my area that are sign'ed for only a small handful of tons.. a lightning crossing those bridges in both directions would definitely overload them.

Personally I see some irony in all of this as the gov wants higher fuel efficiency standards, and I'm so old that I can recall yrs back when cars - as in sedans and fuel efficient compacts were predominant - the gov warned us that the growing trend of pickups and SUVs posed a danger to the lighter vehicles, I do though occasionally see some small subcompacts on the road and think I wouldn't want to be in one in the event of a crash with a truck.
But fortunately most EVs have distinctive front end styling so should I see one coming up behind me or in the opposite direction I'll pull over until the threat has passed.

hmmm if this would become a problem I bet they would add software to force 20 feet gaps(or something like that) to disperse the weight. Which would of course cause other problems I'm sure...

As horrid as it sounds, I think we will need to give those EVs the right of way on those bridges, in essence they become one lane only , making the lighter ICE vehicles wait their turn (as their drivers fume). Wasn't there money allocated in the IRA to get those one lane signs posted , I think the larger "build back better package" had monies earmarked for construction of new EV only bridges, a form of auto segregation but alas it failed to become law.
Of course those waiting ICE drivers may resort to extreme and violent measures, prompting EV makers to add armor their vehicles, prompting larger batteries and even heavier vehicles, thinking about this is starting to weigh on me.

Being serious heavier vehicles do place more strain on highway infrastructure - that include roads themselves, faster wear. Some states already base registration on vehicle weight so more states may adopt that in the future.

Now being only partly serious a state like CA will likely pile on more gas taxes so ICE drivers pay for that extra wear and tear on the road caused by EVs. That is my prediction of the day.
