I can't seem to use SPORT Mode. When it SPORT MODE it doesn't feel like it wants to shift. I've used it maybe 5 times in the past 2 years because of this.
Today I tried it and it took the truck to redline, doesn't matter if I have a heavy or light foot. In Drive it shifts fine.
Then after work I though I would try it again... Nope, 7,000 RPM the tach showed, which is 1000 over the redline. I did an OH SHIT as I took my foot off the gas and popped it into drive. So these motors have no overrev limit either? I haven't had a vehicle without a rev limiter since high school (yes I am old). Weird!

Like Doug said as long as you don't touch the +/- it will shift by itself and if you hit them and want to get out of manual mode just press and hold it and it'll return auto shift.
