I should go measure... but I think the Ranger box is only 21" deep, so the tailgate can't make the 28" minimum.
Still... maybe with a little mod.

There aren't many pickups with a 42" bed depth, so I suspect that's height above ground rather than the size of the tailgate itself.

Found this on the web - Debo pull out step. Pretty neat idea but it doesn't look like it's made any longer

I really like that...the step up and down is still a little high, but really functional. SOMEONE will need to see if it will interfere with an installed hitchstep ....or what the widest hitchstep we could use without interference.

I like the DeboStep but finding one to buy is a problem. I haven’t found a source so if anyone else does please post.

Yeap, I’m using a step stool now and think once I get back to work I’ll build something to slide into the hitch but the Debo is kinda neat.

If you are very frugal, like me, use this folding standalone one for ~ $29 and every so often the price reduces down to only ~$20 (18" height)
https://www.harborfreight.com/step-stool-working-platform-66911.html?_br_psugg_q=step+ladder

Note: The distance on the 2019 Ranger tailgate down to ground is ~ 36" ;)
Note: This is not an endorsement of either vendor ;)
There's a Harbor Freight coupon for that stool on line all the time, to say nothing of their mail offers. I got mine for $19 OTD with a coupon...

I am getting quite old. I have had this step ladder a long time. The top step just happens to be level with the tailgate.

I used the bed for the first time today (load of pine straw). I'm 5'4 and can't step onto the tailgate when it's down (like I could with the other Rangers). The first time I jumped down, I felt it in my ankles; will probably be sore tomorrow. :( Next time, I'll just carry a small plastic step stool with me.
