Just wondering if anyone can give me the dimensions of the 5' bed. Just trying determine whether or not I will get lucky and can swap my Truxedo Titanium bed cover from my Tacoma to the Ranger once it arrives.

Hi,

If Tuxedo is a reputable manufacture, you should be able to contact them to ask this question as they should know for sure. If they say NO...then they should tell you why... Most aftermarket companies get a Ford Body Builders book that had tons of dimensions and likely ditto for Toyota, so Tuxedo should know exactly if the current cover will transfer over to the Ranger.

Good Luck

From the front of the bed to the front (inside of the tailgate) is about 60". Between the bedrails (the inside of the bed) is 55".

I kept the mat from 2017 Tacoma. I had to trim about 2in from the front (although I'd recommend trimming from the back if anyone wants to keep theirs). Looks like the Tacoma is longer, but maybe more narrow? I had the OEM tonneau, so didn't keep it.

I'd say worse case keep your cover and see for yourself and if it doesn't fit, just sell it!

Thanks for the measurements. One thing I forgot about is how the bed cover mounts to the Tacoma bed rails, so I’d likely need to purchase clamps too. I’ll measure my box too.

Not gonna lie, a Tacoma mat in a Ranger box would bug the hell out of me. I’m far too picky for that! But it would save a chunk of change.

Hi Folks,

I see the Ford logo on the head board cover....There is a back story on how that came about, however, it appears the moderators do not like back stories, so until I have the Okay I will not post the story as it would be parked on some remote location of this site...

Yeah, the attachment would be the other issue. I think most aftermarket covers for the Tacoma mount to the accessory rail. My Ranger cover (Gator SFX soft tri-fold) just uses simple clamps under the bed rails, so at a minimum you'd likely have to replace those.

I figure the mat is covered 98% of the time and works the same regardless, and I don't have to spend ~$100 on a new one, so doesn't bother me! Then again I also had a Ford key tag on my Tacoma keys, so I'm weird like that I guess ;)

Phil, I, for one, like the back stories you tell....I find them interesting and kinda funny--finding out how some things, what some may consider trivial, came to be or pass. Maybe you could put them in your "garage" for us to read.
As far as I'm concerned, keep'em coming :like::thumbsup:

Hi Mike,

Never thought of using a Garage....will have to look into that... I thought if I gave some back stories, readers of these forums would get a feeling for how Ford works on the inside...not every thing we do makes it to production, but we learn a ton and aspects of we learn does make it into the product...ie...how the FX4 brand came about and what it means. The SHO Ranger that I wrote was moved to some arcane spot on this site...Why, I don't know as there is no moderator notice to their actions. I moderated a set of Forums in the Clock Collecting and Repair and I always contacted a poster to tell him what and why I was modifying or moving a post... Oh well....Thanks for the recommendation...Have to see how that would work in my Garage...
I am open to how to do this....I have a bunch of PDF files on back stories and maybe upload then as PDFs?

Maybe start a thread so you can share some of the photos and info you find interesting. I also think it’s cool to read about some of your inside stories. Make sure to give us some really good inside info about future Ranger changes too.

Hi Folks,

After kicking this around in this 70 year old brain, I decided to just post the back story here and see what happens. The setting is 1985-1986...don't remember exactly...I had taken two Ranger V6 pickups to an event at Lime Rock Raceway in Connecticut at the invite of Road & Track Magazine We dukked it out on the track with some of the high horsepower play toys from various automobile manufacturers...Vetts, Mustangs..Nissan 280Z etc. Another racer and I finished 5th in the race our of 22 entries...There were a ton of high hp cars behind our little Oxford White Ranger. We got Ink in R&T to boot. This got the attention of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and before I knew it I was drafting up rules for an entry level pro racing series that would have the inaugural start in 1987. Since I was already managing Fords Offroad Racing, this added to my already full plate to add a Ford entry to the SCCA series via Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) and Saleen Autosport.. With all this in addition to my day job, I made a pitch to hire a motorsports coordinator to handle parts ordering etc. This was approved and relieved me of much of the mundane work. Okay...back story to the back story....

My motorsports coordinator, Paul E. came into my office and informed me he had just ordered the 13" Ford Oval stickers for the nose of all Ford trucks in the various racing series. Unfortunately, the order came in and they got the 3 correct, but it was 3 ft long ovals!!!!...Good Grief! I knew it was pointless to try to put the ovals back in the system, so we put the boxes behind my secretary Carol's file cabinet...These oval sat there for several months... Then came the epiphany...I had returned from a weekend SCCA Truck race and was watching the race I had recorded, watching our Saleen Rangers to see if there were handling development things we could try with my Test Mule. I noticed the TV camera would pan the trucks and the back of the Truck including the headboard was visible as the cameras were high above the racetrack. Why not put these huge 3ft ovals on the headboard, and that is what we did... It worked better than I had ever envisioned, Ford Marketing picked up on this and thus was the start of molding the Ford Logo into the OEM drop in bedliner. I am happy to see this continues with the 2019 Ranger!

Anyway...That is the back Story of the headboard logo...
