Been mulling this project over for a while and make no mistake its more of "can I do it cleanly" sort of personal challenge. For fun if you will with a touch of unique aesthetics to sprinkle on top.

Normally used as bumper-cut-out intake points I had something a little different in mind. I have a ton of open real estate on my front grille. In a nut shell, take two units plump them together into one single pipe, then aim it at the same spot that other current market front intakes use. I would use black plumping to keep it mostly camouflaged in plain sight.

Meh or yay idea?

I believe that is going to cut off all the air flow for the radiator and intercooler.
Probably cause a lot of overheating problems in the summer. Just my thoughts.

I like it. Although my mind always wonders if there is a way to have the big mouth connect directly to the AFE scoop. The missing middle piece.

I think you should step back and rethink that look at all the other front grills on the market including the Ford factory grille like the lariat which has a big old bar or two spanning the middle and everything's fine the piping would be a few inches at most.

How about one step further does anyone know what effect the intake would have if you added a supplemental intake to the existing one? I know how to pipe a couple of inches wide to the stock air box. Basically you have your standard intake tubing and then another smaller diameter one to which you could cut a hole in the airbox and add air flow.

The only thing stopping you from connecting piping from the front grill to the intake is that rubber shield housing that your grill slides back into. However you would only have probably about 2 to 3 in of clearance to work with.

Hi Jack,

Usually when you do something to get more air into the engine, you will find minimal effect until you also increase getting the exhaust out of the engine....

Best,
Phil

I would think that one scoop would be plenty seeing as you're going to be limited by the airbox inlet.

Are you running an aftermarket intake?

I think you should step back and rethink it. The bars create a turbulence that speeds up air, your scoops remove the air. But hey your truck roast it if you wish. 30 years as an ase master tech tells me if you live in a hot climate you will have overheating issues. But go for it! It looks cool!

So why wouldn't tubes do the same thing or they just not as cool as bars?

I guess I could just rethink the idea and just go away with the tubes and have the two intakes to force funnel air right into the intercooler haha

Maybe install some kazoos on the tips for finishing touch.

Well exhaust is still on my to buy list I just haven't really decided which route I want to go because unfortunately video doesn't lend itself very well to hearing the actual tones of the various manufacturers. I do have a flowmaster 40 series in place of my stock muffler which gives a nice rumble on cold start but for the most part doesn't really create a lot of noise. So I've been considering a flowmaster system plus you don't really hear a whole lot about people going with flowmaster and I'm a sucker for going against the grain obviously. lol
