My boss was thinking about a new handgun. He knows I shoot a bit so he asked me about some new Hellcat variant.

I said "I don't know, but if I were looking for a new Springfield I go Prodigy DS ALL THE WAY!" He said he'd check it out and we parted ways.

He came back at me later saying "Doug, that's a $1600 handgun."

I said "I know, I can't afford it and I was hoping you'd buy one so I could shoot it."

He said, "if you think I can afford that I'm paying you too much."

I pointed at his 700whp blown Mustang GT and just said "priorities" as I walked off.

Super jealous of you.

Wanna meet halfway for a range day when you get it? Is it single or double stack? Looks single to me.
Double stack! I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can score the exact package I want.

Outside of competition shooting where you'd run 10's of thousands of rounds per year, that little guy should serve you fine. If it gives you any hiccups, start with magazines first to see if it happens with only certain magazines or all magazines. If it is not a magazine issue, my favorite place to send a 1911/2011 style gun for refinement is Hayes Custom Guns in Texas. Great crew there, Aaron or Ben would take care of you.
Sounds like some common fixes for the issues are:

  • Thorough cleaning and lubing (before shooting).
  • Bump up the recoil spring.
  • a little polishing.
Once concern - MIM parts. But in the long run, MIM parts are replaceable when they break and do a decent job for the most part.

I've got the itch and the approval to scratch it!

I'm going to wait until I start my new job and see if we have any connections/hook-ups for ordering guns and an FFL that is used through the office (my new job sells firearms through their website). I think I'm going to go with the 4.25" with the HEX Dragonfly optic packaged with it. I am aware of people having some annoying but minor issues with these, but I'm hoping that by the time I get my order in and processed, I'll be good to go.
.30 Super Carry ??

Got my Volquartzen trigger kit for my Ruger MK IV today. Installed this evening. Very nice trigger! Broke at 2.25lbs and short reset.

I've never even HELD a 1911, but I would like to own one or three ? someday.
Maybe when I'm all grown up I can afford a nice one.

First off - don't aspire to grow up! ?

Second - You can get into a fun G.I. style 1911 for a good price. It wont be some raced out version of a 1911, but there is nothing wrong with meat and potatoes!

I've got 5 yrs left til I can retire. I figure by then I'll be all growed up and can have a nice 1911.
But you're quite right in that I may find myself with a more basic one before then.
Because I can.
But I'd have no idea where to start really. I'm sure someday I'll be back on here asking for advice ?

One of my regrets is selling a "mix-master" 1911 I owned for a couple of years. It appeared to be an early Colt lower that was re-armored for WWII with a Remington-Rand slide. It had a beautiful patina to it!

I have a few (all different priced) and they're really nice both to shoot and comfort wise. One word of advise don't hold one until you're ready to buy. They always seem to find a way to follow you home once you do. ?

I have one that I bought in the military ( which is now in my sons possesion) that was in .38 super and a custom .45 acp.

Edit : in terms of 45s, I was able to retain from my crooked son:)
.45 Blackhawk in “Long” colt with extra acp cylinder.
4506 Smith in .45acp
Ruger Old Army black powder 45.

I have the same on mine and it's so much better. Flappy trigger on the stock one is terrible. Although my gun (22/45 model) has never been very accurate, even after adding a red dot. ?‍♂

Yyeah, stock trigger is terrible. This upgrade is great! Mine is the 22/45 Tactical. Got a TB suppressor on it and Federal AE suppressor ammo is pretty accurate. Can hit 4 inch plates at 50yds.
