I’ve been looking for a heavy duty hitch step that isn’t a piece of plastic or a crazy expensive billet step. I saw this on Amazon and it seems like it could be decent. For 45$ it says it 8pounds of Iron (no idea if that is ok material for a hitch step) and looks ok to me. I know it’s clunky looking but I can’t find anything near the price that seems this solid. Do you guys have any advice on this or possibly good alternatives that don’t break the bank? Thanks! Cryyptic

I got an Amazon special recently that works well as a step. A bit more pointy for those that want to bump into me. It holds my weight just fine and I am not a little person.

Kinda, yes.

Also, if it's iron, it won't offer much as much protection as steel or probably aluminum. If you want protection as well as a step I'd look for steel.

Illegal to be attached while on the road here but cool as HeII , lol
Same in my state. $350 fine although I see enough of them that I doubt it's widely enforced.

I have THIS one that I got off Amazon for $40 as an open box a couple years ago. I figured that if it was actually worth anything then an open box couldn't be messed up.

I was right. It's VERY solid. Solid steel actually.

They have a used one now for $43 so it's gone up a bit.

Super strong, makes a great step, and also is easy to attach a tow strap to it.

I only mount it for a trail ride, though I've been thinking about running it more often as the tailgaters increase. I've never had to use the anti-rattle contraption pictured.

The problem arises after a crash . There was a big lawsuit over one that bowed in the front bumper of a car that prevented the airbag from deploying correctly . It was a long time ago so I can't recall the outcome but you have to be aware of how it will affect someone that hits you from behind . I don't keep my hitch in the receiver because I am aware of the damage it does to my own shinbone :)

Wonder about the liability over the 'super bumper ' then?

Agreed, I’ve walked into a hitch enough that I won’t leave one in the receiver. And I wouldn’t want a step that I couldn’t use with the tailgate lowered. Just carry a small step in the bed.
