I was pretty young at 57 when I was diagnosed with a pretty aggressive prostate cancer. If it were not for the yearly checkups with a PSA test I would have never known. Long story short, surgery for removal and then radiation treatments for 8 weeks is what keeps me alive and ticking. My anniversary was last month 10 years ago.

So take the advice, be good to yourself’s and get checked yearly. The baseline of the tests is that important to know if the problems are bigger or not!

I was getting a prostate exam, assume position, Insert pro wrestler middle finger, and the doctor said “I’ve got my college ring on, can you tell me what year I graduated” ?

I got tired of having sausage fingered guys do this, so two years ago I requested the female doc in the office give it a go. Afterwards she told me "You have the prostate of a very healthy 27 year old man. Very smooth and pliable!" I was 47 at the time. Quite possibly the most flattering thing a woman has ever said to me.

Big 10-4. Even if prostate cancer is detected, it often can be managed. My wife's uncle and my daughter's father in law have had it for years, and their psa's have fluctuated within tolerable range for years. At my annual physical in 2017, my PSA was 5.4. My doctor scheduled me for a biopsy a month later, and the psa had jumped to 5.7. Had a prostatectomy done in 2018. My psa stayed undetectable for about a year then low until late 2020. It went up from 0.14 to 1.88 over 90 days. It's baaaaack... Radiation series done, and it stayed low until earlier this year when it started growing aggressively again. Thank God it hasn't spread into my bones. I start hormone therapy later this month; an androgen blocker to arrest the cancer cells from reproducing. Testosterone is the main androgen, the testicles are prevented from producing testosterone.

Seriously, I live a normal life, and will continue to for many more years, heck I'm only 73.

Gitt'er done, guys. Early detection offers your best chance for a longer, healthy life.

Oh the old testosterone blockers. Had those too! Funny story, wife was going through menopause so hot flashes and mood swings. Me, with blockers, hot flashes and no mood for anything. My two daughters going through puberty all while this was going on. Boy was my house ever FUN ?

I totally agree, this is not something to try and be a tough guy about. This shit is no joke. While not personally experiencing it, I have 2 or 3 friends that went through this, and their saving grace was yearly checks.
My finger story, I have had a female doctor for over 20 years. Not hot, but not ugly. One time while sitting in the waiting room I thought maybe I should use the restroom before I get called in. Nah, I can wait. This was almost a disastrous mistake. When she reached her finger in there and pressed on my bladder it was all I could do to not piss all over the table. I mean it was CLOSE! Lesson learned.

Kaiser sent the poop in the box kit last year. Was gonna do it 'till I read the directions to find I had to do a whole fecal science expirement.

I'll do the real deal here in a couple of years when I hit 50.

It's really simple, did that the last couple of years. Do it! Beats the alternative method.
