I edited this post for clarity. I was in too much of a rush the first time....
no arguments with whether it's ok to overinflate. if you overdo it you can cause uneven tread wear, so it's basically a matter of finding the right point for your use.

No load or light load or 'quick' load I don't muck around with tire pressure. But I've had great success increasing tire pressure (mostly the rears) when loaded and/or hauling for significant miles.

Hi Folks,

The door sticker is the pressure at which all vehicle dynamics is developed, loaded and unloaded, unless included in the owners manual. There is a max pressure on the sidewall of the tire...do not inflate above this psi rating. Most tire mtg have a load vs tire pressure table which may be useful.

BTW...The tire pressure is supposed to be set at the dealership, not at the assembly plant.

I set my tires at 40 psi for gas mileage and for wear.. also is your wheel a 17 or an 18 ? If it’s an 18 inch that means less sidewall .. a tire at a lower pressure will generate more heat and more flex action if the sidewall .. to me on the 18 inch wheel 35 feels mushy .. on my old rangers I ran 31x10.50 bfg radial at tires.. their sidewalls said 50 psi.. based on weight of truck I ran at 42 psi and could get 75000 miles out of a set .. the Hankooks on the new ranger appear just right at 40 psi when viewed from the back and checking tire across the tread .... I’m 8000 miles in now

that is only for the stock tires, no? Once you change size/brand is the door sticker no longer valid?

They overinflate for shipping.
Hi,

Actually they inflate to seat the tire bead on the rim. dealer is supposed to adjust to the door label. All railcar and haulaway simulator tests are done at this bead seat pressure as the assembly plant saves manpower to not adjust tires at line speed.

I think this reduces bouncing by the vehicle on truck or rail. VW inflates to 50psi and uses shipping pucks in front shocks.

If you watch the rail simulator, which duplicates the worst sections of shipping you might be amazed. Shipping pucks for VW a were a bandaid for a design problem.

Can you elaborate on the design issue? I understood they simply reduce movement and when car is strapped down then less bounce.
The big issue is when the dealer does not remove after delivery. On the VW Forum we help many owners identify and remove.

Thanks

When rail/haulaway testing shows a problem, a bumpstop spacer fixes the problem only If the dealer removes them. dealers can't even get tire pressure right. Depending on the dealer might work in some parts of the world, but not here. Ford puts the bump stop inside the shock when this may cause a problem otherwise. So my concern is whether VW fixed the problem or ignored the problem. That is corporate philiphocy. VW diesel showed less than honest intent to cheat fuel economy on FEPT testing. Ford has had miserable results in dealing with the dealer to perdeliver the vehicle correctly. My goal as head of Vehicle Engineering was to get it right out of the box, so that the customer avoids the dealer experience other than the initial purchase
