the ranger is good i will not lie and i like mine a lot buuut the tacoma will always out flex a ranger it has longer suspension so it will be more capable offraod now 3rd gen tacomas dont have to tub the cab they can fit 35s with a cab mount chop and a small lift. 2nd gens are the pain in the ass ones because of how the fender is designed
Chopping the cab mount? That sounds ilke a not so great idea and idk if ur going that route youll be running aftermarket so that advantage is a mute point, I have wheeled with tacos and I have more often than not had to wait for them and they were modified as well but that may have been due to lack of driver skill

so its not a big deal tbh the reason its cut its because toyota made the cab mount very large! it would stick out past the fender line and anything larger then a 32 would hit and 32s unless on a high caster setting was put on with an alignment it would collide with the cab mount... so what you do is cut the excess off and weld a plate in place that reinforces it again and it no longer sticks out like it use to now its flat and flush with the fender. now if you go larger tires like 34s and up you are going to have to do a load more work! mine was never rewelded because it still needed some trimming to clear the 34s i had at full stuff.... and going to 35s to fully stuff you will most likely need to tub the cab unless you go with jd fabs front end part where it pushed the front of the vehicle forward by removing all the old mounts for suspension then you can fit 35s without modifying any of that!

okay so aftermarket yes that will improve it but even then the ranger will not flex as much as a tacoma... ive been wheeling for some time now and i always went out with jeeps (oddly enough it was rare with toyotas lol) and the options on a tacoma are just better.... they normally have more droop then other models because of how the suspension is designed...

could be driver skill or just no real reason to rush ive wheeled with a lot of built rigs where they just go slow because why rush? and then ive been with others who want to bomb through the trails and get it done with quick..

In my case they were trying to keep up and couldn't and I was still going fairly deliberately not balls out and that sounds like a lot of very sketchy work just to clear 35's lol

honestly that little bar i dont see it stopping much...
Source: Trust me, bro.

just busting your balls, but seriously watch the crash test footage and you'll see just how well that little bar deflects offset impacts. It's a pretty good design tbh. Obviously do what you gotta do if big ass tires are your dream, but that beam wasn't added just for shits and giggles. Couldn't live with myself if my wife's legs were crushed in an accident just because I wanted bigger tires.

couldnt tell ya lol some people just do stuff differently lol

tubbing the cabin ya it can be but most just beat the crap out of to make em fit close enough and call it good most really only tub on 37s but if you wheel hard you will need larger tires 33s only get you so far tbh

Did you do a Diff Drop? If not, I would definitely consider it so that your drive train remains inline as much as possible. I'm running 33" KO2's so I think I'm ok but if I go bigger I will install the kit. Don't want to put too much stress on the system with exaggerated angles.

Looks good! Do you ever get out in the dirt? Seriously asking. Not meant to be a dis.

sooo i will say one thing about a diff drop and thats nah leave em out.. all they do is drop your diff lower as a grab point to get hit... especially if you wheel the truck...

plus diff drops are usually only for higher lifts not for larger tires

Shit I have a 1500lb T-bucket with about 400hp that has a death wobble that would surprise jeep owners.

Probably the automotive safety engineers like myself that spend years on a single project to guarantee performance in all relevant scenarios ?

you mean the same people that most question how in the hell they did something so dumb on vehicles?

not saying you but an engineer is still just a person and scenarios can be different. the bar will most likely help but i wouldnt put my full faith in it tbh
