Bees are fish????

If you read the article, it isn't quite as weird as it sounds. It is just a legal definition and apparently they've done that for several other kinds of insects and animals as well.

I agree Rob, but don't you think the California legislature could create laws to protect bees and other creatures without defining them as "fish"?

Absolutely - they were being lazy for sure but that seems to be a perennial issue these days unfortunately.

There's a reason I don't tell the kind folks out in here in CO that I am originally from CA, even though that a decent chunk of the state north of Sacramento (like where our good friend @Radioman is) actually has a decent amount in common with the kind folks in the Front Range, assuming you subtract all the Bay Area folks that moved north and drove up the property values.

I understand wanting to protect bees, but calling them fish? That's like saying an F15 is the same as a Los Angeles class submarine

My wife moved to Colorado from northern California in the last millennium and still gets a little flack for it.

When she clarifies that she came from the middle of the Sierra Nevadas they usually give her a pass.

Native Coloradans have quite the attitude. But when you look at what has happened to this state in the last 40 years, it's not without reason.

That's how my time at CSU was. Most of the friends I made in Fort Collins cut me some slack. I think a lot of it is it was so similar to where I grew up, the assimilation was guaranteed.

If it's any recompence, I don't think bees are fish, and the city of Boulder (let alone California, rip my parents) doesn't appreciate what lives in my safe.......

Despite what the recent voting record around here says I really think we are a silent majority. At least in my circles. ;)

I think that the great State of California should be able to protect bees in some manner other than classifying them as fish...
Heh, the legislature actually started to do just that, but after realizing that "invertebrates" were already covered in the original language of the law they saw their job as done. At any rate, the bees be protected. Here are a couple pics of them right now from our front yard

Are you certain this happened in CA? This is exactly the type of buffoonery we've come to expect in Hawaii...

Absolutely, easier to let a judge define a bee is a fish than to amend a poorly written legislation. That would take time away from forcing people to by electric devices they don't have enough power to charge up and use.
