I’m sure most of us all got our trucks relatively new or from a dealer to which you normally get 2 sets of keyless remotes.

Now I know not all of us have the same features (remote start) but do you guys prefer changing out the remotes and using one for (example .. ) 6 months and then the other for 6 months? Does it matter if you don’t ever use the other one, and just constantly use ONE remote?

So I’ve had my truck over a year now, have remote start (and use it occasionally) and have never used but one remote this whole time. Never had a battery issue or remote start issue or the lovely (?)”key flip out thing” issue .. it’s been perfect.

But it got me wondering … does the backup I have at the house go dead from not using it? Battery issues? Or is it fine just leaving it in a drawer in case I may need down the road?

Have any of you had issues at all (i.e. - battery, remote start, or anything else) by using only one remote or … ? What’s your take on this?

Also.. any tricks these remotes can do now a days? Like double click for windows up or down when walking up to vehicle? The remote start is super nice when hot out .. but curious what you all think.

Ive had mine for almost 3 years now and still using the original one. I do take my spare remote along when we're on vacations just in case I lose mine. I also test the spare out every couple months just to make sure the battery is good.

Any issues? Have remote start?

… I’ve never really had many Ford Products .. mostly Japanese or German .. and usually never needed the keys handy (had push to start or when I grabbed the outside hands to the vehicle it unlocked) .. so this truck is the first time in many years I’ve actually had to use the remote …

Nope no issues yet and yes it has the remote start. Plus if you're out and your fob dies there's a spot in the center cup holder under the rubber where you lay the fob and it'll start your truck. At least you'll be able to get home to get your other one.

Yeah I remember the sales guy saying that. Forgot about it actually but do remember that lol. It has like an indentation under right?

what do you do with the other remote? Have you tried it to make sure it still works?

Yes there's a indent the shape of the fob and once you lay it there it'll show on the dash display.

My other fob I just hang in my gun safe, it has a small key rack on the door. I'll use it every once in a while to remote start my truck just to make sure it's still working.

Global windows (all windows up or down when holding the lock/unlock of the remote) can be enabled on most Ford vehicles either through Forscan or Foccuus.
I changed my Escape to global windows through Foccuus.

But they cheaped out on the Ranger. It seems you have to order a new module for the driver door (that will also control the other doors) to enable Global windows on the Ranger.
I seem to remember that the module needed was around $140.

3 Fords, 6 remotes, they all get used at some point. Same batteries for the 2010 as it came with. I can tell which ones get used most often by the wear on the buttons. I do try to swap them out when I think about it, probably once a year.
I don't have keyless entry so YMMV

My wife, primary driver has one & I have the other.
Never thought of this, but on my 1980 Honda, which I bought new, I still use 'the key', I wonder where the other is.... Wife does not drive motorcycle.

Pretty much every vehicle I have had since the late 80s has had a remote the last six have had intelligent access with push button start. Since all these vehicles had/have an alternate way to get in and start the vehicle I do not worry about batteries. I will either get the second remote or replace the batteries when they die.

All of my second remotes stay safely tucked away in a shield pouch so I don't have to think about someone walking around the house and intercepting the signal when I am not home.

with the price of these damn fobs being so crazy, 1 goes on the key ring and the other went straight onto the shelf in my gun safe. I keep the spare for my wifes Edge ST on my key ring also... so I can steal her car whenever I want  ? . I havent swapped mine around at all but I suppose it wouldnt hurt to do so. Obviously the battery in the spare "should" last longer than normal since its not being used but I have some spares at home just in case. Although now that im thinking about it... I dont know if theyre that same ones I need.. ?

When I bought my '12 Focus. I had to replace the battery in the remote twice in less than a year. After that, it lasted until I sold it last year.
I have been hearing an ad on the radio by a local car dealership, Volvo I think, where they were proudly promoting a free second key. Huh? I thought all cars came with two keys.

Battery in the remote fob’s is a silver oxide coin cell. They can sit unused for at least 6 years perhaps longer. You know they’re getting weak when your range drops off using it. So an everyday fob you should easily see 4 to 6 years use before needing a battery swap
