Sorry if I’m not posting this in the best spot but I was curious if anyone could chime in.

We’ve been looking to potentially overhaul our ranger with an APG kit for the last few months but I’ve been apprehensive with the new Ranger Raptor coming out in a year or two (I figure that long with chip shortages and backlogs lol)

I know the APG ranger kit is super expensive and has its own issues and there isn’t a ton of them out in the wild. I know the full specs of the raptor aren’t quite out yet but was curious what people thought between the two of them.

Do you think a new ranger raptor would perform as well as an APG gen 5 ranger?

What is your goal with the truck. Factory is usually better than aftermarket for most people

Neither truck will be a slouch, but it’s hard to beat the Raptor and factory warranty. In the end it depends what YOU want out of the truck. Here in South Florida you see F150 Raptors and soon I expect to see Bronco Raptors on the regular. The rarity of the APG Ranger conversion is special on its own.

APG is no longer doing the full kit...but their suspension components are superior to what you would find on the factory Fords...

I didn’t realize they stopped doing the kits thanks for the Information. We are coming from a jeep JL that was lifted with 37s. We spent most our time on the rocks and over landing so was trying to achieve something similar. We don’t want a rock crawler per say but just something that’s a jack of all trades master of none. We just really like the truck and use the bed quite often. It’s so nice to have a truck compared to a jeep!

APG stopped "mass production" of their kit to focus on the Bronco and new Ranger but they said they can still make them, just with extended lead times. I assume that would mean the price would be more expensive too though.

I think the current Ranger with APG kit will look cooler for sure and maybe perform better off-road. With the Ranger Raptor around the corner, assuming I had the $30k+ lying around, I do not think I would personally do it anyways. I would want to see what the next gen Ranger offers first since you will never get a return on that APG kit when you sell an APG Ranger.

I love my Ranger Tremor but what I can't fix is my wife's complaints about the interior when we tow our travel trailer. I do not want an F150 so I am personally hoping the interior is large enough with enough storage to keep her happy. Only issue will be the Raptor markups.

Those are some really good points to consider as well.

I guess it may just come down to if it will even be possible to get a Ranger Raptor without paying ridiculous amounts of dealer markup. I know the F150 Raptors are crazy expensive but I'm hoping that is just going to be a F150 thing only haha.

The new interior does look nice but I definitely would love to see one in person. However, I'm not sure when I'll even be able to see one as well. I don't care so much about the interior of the old ranger vs new ranger. But I know a raptor if we got one would have a lot more resale value if it ever came to that.

Thanks for your thoughts!

How much extra power does the APG kit give you?;)

Also, the APG kit does not give you rear coils either, right?

So the choice is, put a killer suspension and wide body kit on your current truck at $10k-$20k in one year vs a factory supported fully warranted brand new truck at an additional $30k in 2-3 years, knowing that the new truck will be quite a bit more powerful and have an arguably better suspension.

I know which one I'd choose. Start saving for your new truck.

You think the APG/Deaver rear leafs are better than a coil spring rear suspension?

Heck yea it takes a lot of work to get the power to what the RR will come with stock.

And I don't see an argue when you have smart shocks on the RR I wish I had those. I think it's a combo of position and velocity relative shocks. Like as the position of the piston gets further into the travel the damping increases and the same with how fast the piston is moving through it's linear travel like when landing a jump it knows its landing and immediately increases damping. I would have to change the shim stack on my shocks or get bypasses and adjust them to either hitting whoops or landing jumps.

I personally bought my ranger in 2019 and wanted to keep it stock because the finance guy said the RR was coming in 2021 but when COVID hit I decided oh well I'll build my own. Now it has snowballed and I'm designing trailing arms and a roll cage.

For sure!

Your truck is awesome, and if it weren't for us knowing the 6g Raptor will come here the APG kit is the best thing out there.

I'm all for rolling your own. I just think in this instance the near future factory offering is a better option.

No shock and leaf combination will beat a coilover and link true pre-runner set up....Back in the late 80's I had a wanna be pre-runner, that was jump capable with double shocks on all 4 corners , a custom rear leaf pack by National Springs , in bed cross supports, full roll cage, 5 point harness from fighter jet . After a ride in my son in laws race truck with a coilover link setup last Sept there was no comparison .....

.Super Danny is alot like me and the crew I ran with back in the day.?.

I agree. And of course, the RR will have "BAJA MODE". Oh and I almost forgot about the AWD. Man what a package.

Ford's R&D on the Raptor will be leagues better than aftermarket.

OEMs always have to operate within certain limits, warranty, durability and reliability, low maintenance, works in any climate, cost, government restrictions, emissions, fuel economy, etc.

Aftermarket can skirt most of these, but the Raptor is such a well designed, engineered and tested package.
