So, I've been following this forum since December of 2018. I was seriously considering getting a Ranger Lariat but decided that the timing was not right for me.

Ive decided to wait until at least the 2020 model.

As I said, I've been reading all the posts for months now and am curious if the issues owners have been having are common or are they rare.

The issues I've been reading up on lately are:

Bad Injectors
Frame lower on one side
Scratches under clear coat
Fuel mpgs are all over

Those are the few that come to mind.

Does anyone have actual information on the percentages of each of these issues?

Oh, I certainty understand that a small percentage of Ranger owners post on this forum so I know the the numbers, if anyone has them, will be based on these members only.

Lastly, my curiosity stems from the many posts that the American 2019 Ranger is not new and has been continuously made around the world...just not sold here in the US. Why then, are all the issues I mentioned as well as others I didn't? These issues are usually present in new models...growing pains so to speak. It seems that these "bugs" should have been worked out by now around the world.

I agree.

I have a speck of dust in a spot under the paint. Also tailgate fit is a bit more to the left.
Other than that panel fit is not perfect but ok. Typical for American truck badges vs Toyota.

Well I’m would just be guessing but I would say most of us are not having major issues. I am not. I also bought an F150 in 1997 the first year that the “new” body. I had no issues. MPG is an issue of driver in my opinion that the truck... when my wife drives she get about 4 MPG less than me in the same car. Scratches happen to all makes and models. As far as frame issues I am not sure..... hope this helps

Issues:
Bad Injectors - NO issue
Frame - A little but not enough to bother me
Scratches - NO issue
Fuel MPG - NO issue, there are 1000's of factors so every individual will get different numbers. My last trip this weekend of over 270 miles the first leg was 22.3 MPG and then it dropped down to 20.3 wind was blowing in the same direction as I was headed for the first leg and then no much wind coming back home which has matched another weekend driving the same trip and that's been my highest reading at fuel up so I'm happy. 1548 miles.

The NA ranger is very new, it hasn't been built since 2011 in the US. The factory was fully gutted and re-tooled to build this model in the US so it is in no way the same assembly line like others around the world.

Regarding your last paragraph, many owners on this forum don't seem to understand this fact and insist that those owners that have questions about quality shouldn't worry, this design has been proven.

Your statement about retooling make perfect sense why these little issues would be present.

Thanks

I have had none of these problems I have a Shadow Black Ranger and I have found NO paint issues. I'm not getting a ruler out and crawling under the truck to take frame measurements that seem extra nit picky. And as for the mpg question my Ranger is staying right at 24 mpg's in mountainous WVa that's pretty damn good. Oh and my Ranger is a SuperCrew 4X4.

You might want to start a poll on those particular issues. I bought a new 2016 Tacoma and it had lots of issues for a first-year truck, At 1000 miles I had a bad rear end, all kinds of drone sounds I had a 2008, 2012 and 2016 Tacoma. All were great except the 2016. I like up to date tech as well Ford has that in spades.

...So far with 935 miles no issues. No unusual whines or noises.

Long term reliability is yet to be seen. The truck is new for the US and in that regard has more HP and Torque, I would test drive the Tacoma against it. The engine is tried and true as well as the 10 speed automatic. Sync 3 is finally GREAT!! After a rough start with earlier versions.

No complaints about MPG, I am getting better than the EPA sticker.

Toyota is playing catch up with the interior tech. and performance. But they sold 78.000 in the first quarter to Rangers 12,000.

Toyota still owns the compact truck market bigly!!

Why is MPG an issue?????

Of course it's going to vary depending on drivers.

That is an issue with driving style, not mechanical issue.

Ok. Are you having issues with the other things I mentioned?

So far no issues for my Ranger.
Injectors: No problems
Frame: Rear passenger's door is off by a little but it doesn't bother me. Hardly noticeable anyways
Paint: I found a few tiny scratches here and there but nothing a little clear coat pen, compound, and polish can't fix. Other than that, the paint is good to me.
Fuel MPG: I average 24.9 going and coming home from work/school in rush hour traffic.
Some of us get really lucky and others not so much. With all the car building factors, I'm sure it's easy for little things to happen that can cause problems. I'm sure you can find a flaw on every new car

I have none of the issues you listed. I'll admit I have not measured the frame but don't intend to either. I looks fine to me. As for MPG I have over 1,000 miles on my truck and have been getting around 20-21 mpg, about 50/50 local vs highway. My commute is about 24 miles each way and I love to use the boost a little more than the eco.

As for the assertion that this is the same truck that has been built for other countries for years is true and false. While truck is mostly based on the other Ranger it has been greatly modified to meet US standards.

While some have had some of the issues you stated I truly believe they are a small minority. That being said they have only been on the road for less than 6 months so time will tell.

I will be turning 50 this year and have had quite a few vehicles over the years, but this is by far my favorite. I am very happy with how mine was built. I know if you get a 2019 or 2020 you will be happy too. Best wishes in you hunt for a new ride.

Very glad you're not having any of the issues. It seems that the issues I mentioned are few amongst current owners...which is great news.

Next model year may be the one I get. I really love my F150 so I'm not in any hurry.

If you are worried about fit/finish issues just look for ones built more recently. I think they get pretty good at making them after making 10 or 20 thousand.
