Everyone talking about backwards seats makes me remember traveling in a van as a kid with the backwards facing seats that looked out the back windows instead of the front. Can't remember what they were called, but I do distinctly remember being very car sick in them.

Yeah we had 2 big dodge station wagons with those seats. we didn't like them so we'd put the seat down an put some blankets on the floor an sit/lay on it.

You can probably call it the original third row seating

if you dont know it im sure google has a lotta versions. I prefer the cheerleader clappy version. "the front is where we ride and the back is where we ----"

I remember those, seems the backwards facing seats are out of fashion now. I do recall seeing some on several of the suvs that are not for sale in the states. i loved them, i could look at who ever was behind us and make faces at them.
before mom had a wagon we had an old blazer with the spare tire behind the back seat. my brother and i along whatever kids we had with us always climbed up on the tire and would ride on top of the tire between the tire and the roof, you had to lay on it. it was a hoot till some neighbor kid barfed up all his dairy queen... then mom outlawed the tire rides.

I remember as a kid, no car seats, and we had an 83 Dodge Omni hatchback that my younger sister and I would sit in then back hatch area when we traveled on road trips. You couldn't get away with that now. Yet somehow I am still standing. And I drank out of the garden hose too!!!
When my kids were 2 and 6, we took a road trip out to Yosemite National Park from Wisconsin in our '86 Aerostar. I took out the center seat (no small feat, they were hardly "Sto & Go," more wrench & cuss) so the kids could have a play area.
Booster seats hadn't come along yet, so the 2 yr old twins were in car seats and the oldest in between in the rearmost seat. Out on the lonelier stretches, most of the time really, they had playtime on the floor.

We had a Taurus station wagon growing up and my brother and I would sit in the rear facing fold down seats on road trips and I’d get real nauseous. It was still a great time though

I remember back in the 70's, Subaru came out with a small pickup with seats in the bed.

I wonder why it did not become more popular.
