I can't see special ordering and waiting 3,4,5 months for what will be a common vehicle with the same option pkgs available in most cases. Also paying more but that's me..
"different strokes for different folks"
Maybe it'll be common someday, maybe it won't. (Probably not given what I wanted.) But regardless, I wanted to enjoy it this summer, not sometime in the future when it might be coming available.
Special ordering a vehicle shouldn't take 6 months to get and at one time didn't. I special ordered my 15 Mustang Convertible got it in 70 days that's ordering building and shipping! Now the 15 Mustang was a all new car so the excuse of a new vehicle on the assemble line is just that a excuse. The Ranger could be the Golden Goose for Ford but if they don't watch they could kill it before lays any golden eggs.

In 2-3 weeks the Ford lots will be full of Rangers. A dealer near me has 41.

I ordered mine so it had EXACTLY what I wanted on it, and nothing more, nothing less. I have not been able to find one in inventory within a reasonable distance from me. I spent a long time figuring out what I wanted, so that is what I ended up with, and I'm very happy with my choices.

You must understand that buyers are not told that they will wait 5 months for an ordered truck, in fact it is unprecedented in the modern era for a vehicle in production at the time of ordering.

Go back 3 months and show me a single 2WD Saber SuperCab STX on a dealer lot anywhere in the country. In fact... where is there one now?
Paying more is certainly not an issue.

This is one of the things that all manufactures do when they come out with a new model they load the dealers up with heavily optioned units sometimes it works out and they make big profits from the first units out. But it happens quite often that this strategy backfires and sales are effected.
Mom told me that "everybody's doing It" is simply not a valid excuse for wrongdoing?

Right. Ford is re-introducing the Ranger in a manner that is most profitable for them; building a higher percentage of crew cabs and higher trim levels on the front end of the model roll out. They do this while actually marketing well above the marketing level of the 2015 Colorado. That is not an accident, perhaps an experiment. Ford: "You want a Ranger right now? Then $$$$$ buddy."

Short term frustration for the value buyer, and $$$$$ for Ford. Who knows what the future holds, but even as un-precedented as this is, to a large degree it is by design.

No doubt it is by design and the result of poor judgement. Somebody should tell them
"this ain't office furniture".
Intentionally screwing paying customers for short term gain is bad business and erodes future purchases, and it is cynical and condescending.

The funniest Ranger commercial implies that if you want to drive to the Supermarket or on paved roads you don't need no stinking Ranger!:crackup:

Who knows Floyd maybe they think they can get away with this experiment because the truck is; that good. Will get a good chuckle when i hear the commercial next time.

I think it’s lack of supply and slow production my preorder from December 1st still isn’t here and I had to go 2 hours north and get a Lariat instead of the xlt I ordered from the dealer 10 mins away
The dealer I got it from said they just put it up as available and I literally called 10 minutes later
Glad I got the lariat over the xlt even saved 2k
Best truck I ever owned

I ordered because there are ZERO Rangers withing 300 miles of me with the features I want, and more importantly those I DONT want. I couldn't give a rats ass as to what is or is not, or may not, be common.

I ordered a Supercab XL 4x4. 101A, STX, Trailer Tow, Locking Diff, Sliding rear, mud flaps. that is it. All I need. Will do my own bed liner and tonneu cover.

Your completely correct but the auto industry has practice this " flood the dealers with fully loaded cars 1st" at least since the '70's.

I feel that Ford has dropped the ball in so many ways. The only commercials I see promote it as an off road 4 wheel drive. In the planning they did not pay attention to details like the sub par ignition switch that can move around and has no retention ring and the back seats that the rubber grommets break off when opening and closing both the bottom and top. The seat rattles And I have never seen such a shoddy paint job. I have scratches under my clear coat on my hood and painted over dirt on my door edge. I can see faint black marks in my stone seats. And oh, the 17.1 MPG is not what I was advertised.

I have had Ford F-150 trucks my entire adult life and have never been treated like I was at the pick up and sign off. They acted like they were doing me a favor selling me my order because despite the fact that I spent many hours selecting this truck and the months of waiting, they told me they they could sell it in an hour to someone else if I did not take the trade they offered me. There take it or leave it attitude was on par with drug dealers slinging crack on the corners.

In the end, I am 65 years old and I keep my trucks close to 20 years so this is it for me. I will enjoy it despite all of it’s flaws but if I ever do buy another truck, it will not be a Ford.

I don't think so, and have never seen this before not even when introducing new and popular models. Didn't happen with the first Ranger, or the Tempo, or the Taurus or even the Pinto, Maverick or MustangII
While dealers have tended to stock lots of optioned cars on the lot, customer orders have always been given priority, at least until now.
Ford needs a Ford at the helm, or at least the philosophical equivalent.
