So I am looking at possibly putting Fuel Vector D579 wheels on my 2021 Ranger I recently got. My understanding is the stock 16" steel wheels have a 55mm offset, and the Vector wheels have a 20mm offset. Or the ones I have seen listed do. This puts the tires out towards the fender (away from center of truck) 35mm (about 1-3/8") further. Does this sound like enough to cause any problems, or has anyone no the forum done a similar offset change>

Thanks,

Wade

check my build- went from +55 to +20. Made the move to accommodate the upsized tire from stock 17's to 285/70/17

From the picture on your reply it looks like they are sticking out from the fenders more than I would have expected from a 35mm change. Maybe it's the angle or the tires too.

I've noticed a trend of people not posting or ignoring wheel width on this forum.

Wheel width is important when talking offset and fitment.

The stock wheels are 16 x 7, and the Vectors 16 x 8, another variable I'm not sure of as far as effects on handling, clearance, etc. I'm tempted to leave the Steely Dans on there until I wear out the 16" tires and the 36,000 mile warranty so I don't mess up something Ford won't cover.

You shouldn't have any problems with factory tire size as far rubbing goes. My wheels are are +25 with factory suspension height.

I'm not sure how well these pictures show but the treads pretty close to flush with the fenders. (Edited to make more sense)

So i see one claim that if you keep the factory tire size it isnt much of an issue. Honestly a first for me but if it works then it works. If you are trying to go with a bigger tire(32 or 33 inch) then you will need to make modifications to the crash bars at minimum(not something I recommend for safety reasons).

Out of curiosity what is the current state of the truck and what do you plan to do with it?

Not changing tires, just wheels. Do not understand the reference to crash bags at all.

If you are only changing wheels you should be fine since one other member has confirmed fitment

Hey Wade,

Crash bars are square tubes mounted perpendicular to the frame - one in front of and one behind the front tire - they are designed to restrict wheel and tire movement in a crash - the rear’s there to keep your tire from entering the cab and crushing your feet and ankles.

Too low of a wheel offset and taller tires can cause issues where the tires rub on the crash bars when turning or while under compression. That’s why other posters here are saying your existing tires should be fine but going big might be an issue.

Thanks for that information. I thought it was a reference to a third party mod of some kind not to factory parts.

To confirm the above, you may have to do this if you change tire size. Since you aren't- nothing to worry about.

Down the line if you ever wanted to go to a 33" you'd need to replace the crash-bars with aftermarket options or remove them entirely. Too much information right now, but trying to save you the headache of looking through the forum in the future.

This website *updated link* is helpful with predicting where you will end up HOWEVER it does NOT take into account change in rim width- IE on wheels with the same offset if you go from a 7" wide rim to a 8" wide rim the 8" will poke an additional 1/2" further out from the offset point as well as 1/2" in.

Since you're keeping stock tire size this is accurate, but keep in mind the tire I am running is significantly wider than what you are and thus mine will stick out more.

Mudflaps on order... new job has a dirt parking lot and I'm sick of grabbing dirt-coated door handles

Just to update, I had the dealer put the 16" steelies on when I picked up the truck on Feb. 2nd, and took the 18" Bronco wheels along in the back. After 1900 miles and a few weeks, I got tired of looking at those steel wheels and put the 18" on there. Looks much better I have to admit. I did not like the "style" of the Bronco wheels at first, but they're growing on me. It did put the speedo about 4 MPH slow at 70, may have the dealer fix that when I get an oil change. Reading the Forscan threads it sounds like something I don't want to mess with. Will see how it goes with the 18" they seem to ride nice, will see if they make a change in MPG or anything else. Looks a lot more aggressive like it's going somewhere in a hurry even when parked!

I really appreciate the information and replies I got from forum members. The +55 offset on the Bronco wheels being the same as the Ranger stock ones makes it nice.
