It sounds as though your dealership/Ford believe this to be a known issue. Yet I've heard nothing regarding this. Is there a TSB or something?COLD WEATHER PROBLEM.
Diagnosis, heavy ice build up on the inside of the intake manifold / plenum assembly due to the extreme cold. The ice actually cracked the intake and split it open. Said chunk of ice then slammed into throttle body, stalling truck and damaging throttle body. Everything went into Limp mode, including the TECU( limited to 1st & 2nd gears, 1400RPM max ).
There is an updated intake(for this cold climate issue), with new PCV lines and oil separator line coming from the USA. Told aprox 1 week down for parts.
I'm happy its not anything more serious, and I can make due without the truck for a week.
Apparently not this time?Hi Jim,
Ford tests down to -40°
best,
Phil
Are you sure it's not because you're being a little pansy b**** like me and using remote start to warm up the truck for 30 minutes?!I will say this engine doesn’t like the cold. My mileage tanked once it got into the teens daily. I went from 22 to like 17mpg. Been that way for a few months now. Last year I thought it was bad because of breakin and my lead foot feelin the fun. Nope, it’s the cold and winter gas that’s doing it.
You're not alone Frenchy. Are you sure it's not because you're being a little pansy b**** like me and using remote start to warm up the truck for 30 minutes?!
Ain’t denying that fact boys. Old bones don’t like the cold anymore. The warmer the betterYou're not alone Frenchy.
Truck has been getting a lot if idle time with this cold snap.
It's funny how I used to roll my eyes at old dudes bitching about shit, only to become an old dude that's always bitching about shit.Ain’t denying that fact boys. Old bones don’t like the cold anymore. The warmer the better![]()
I got frostbite on my hands when I was in my teens winter camping and hiking. It messes up your circulation later in life. I’m outside 10 minutes now without gloves hands turn white and feels like a 1000 needles sticking into them. Just make sure I always got gloves! My kids got me some battery snowmobile gloves. Those things are awesomeIt's funny how I used to roll my eyes at old dudes bitching about shit, only to become an old dude that's always bitching about shit.
Not sure it's the bones yet for me though. It's the circulation. Even these last few nights at work in negative temps the majority of my body does just fine with it. But for some reason, anything below 20° my hands and feet get murdered.
I'm betting there's some prior damage for me as well.I got frostbite on my hands when I was in my teens winter camping and hiking. It messes up your circulation later in life. Remote start combined with the thermonuclear seat heaters in these trucks is easy to get accustomed to.Ain’t denying that fact boys. Old bones don’t like the cold anymore. The warmer the better![]()

Sounds like you have Raynaud's Syndrome, yes it has a name, I have it for pretty much the same reason. It's an over reaction by your body to cold using your body's response of shutting down the circulation to the extremities. Painful as hell and about all you can do is get inside and slowly warm your hands till the circulation comes back. Then your hands turn a bright red. Definitely no fun. One more of the abuses of our youth coming back to get us. ?I got frostbite on my hands when I was in my teens winter camping and hiking. It messes up your circulation later in life.
