TC = Trail Control

A little more information on this subject. Over a year ago on here when we found out we could add TM buttons to our Rangers no matter the model the subject jumped to TC management offered in FX4 vehicles. We never arrived at solving that. Looking at as built files along with VIN numbers there was no noticeable differences that would allow us to add it with a Forscan change. It incorporates quite a bit to work, cruse control, ABS system, wheel torque and the dash display while using.

Trophy trucks use paddle shifters.
Trophy trucks also use sequential transmissions.

I use the paddle shifters on my wife's Subaru a lot, when driving in the mountains. Though, she has a real 'manual' mode where the paddle controls actual up shifts and down.

I assume you're talking about their CVT. That is not a "true manual mode." It's simply jumping you to one of six pre programmed ratios inside the rubber band box.

Manually shifting an automatic, or CVT for that matter, has only one real use. And it is mountainous driving.

Other than that it's only purpose is to make fat old men with bad knees feel like they're a boy Racer again.

I just meant that when I press the paddle for up it goes up and when press the paddle for down it goes down.

Right on.

The Subie CVT is intriguing. I'll have to check one out in person soon. The wife wants something sporty for her next new ride in a couple of years. Due to some brain damage she can no longer drive a stick. Auto, CVT, or DCT with an auto mode is a must.

She wants a Mustang but by the time she's ready the 'Yote might be gone. Been thinking about putting her into another WRX, we'll see.

Even though I don't use it a lot I like to have the paddle shifter on my 2.7 Fusion. I would have preferred that over the stupid buttons on the shifter on the Ranger.

And paddle shifter would allow you to up and down shift at will whether you're in drive or sport.

The only steering wheel shifter I want is one that is connected to a real dual clutch system...even then it's too much work for a truck lol...

Hey Dave - Jon from Canshift. This intrigues me, definitely something I could look into. I would need access to a vehicle with these options.

What exactly is TC mode and what would you expect the external display to show? Our current product uses a 4 digit, 7-segment display, but this is soon to be replaced with an OLED which would allow for more data to be displayed
I'm a little fuzzy on the details as yet, especially about the Ford nomenclature, but TC is Traction Control (properly referred to as Terrain Modes in the Ford nomenclature). I don't have these features on my truck (yet), so my knowledge is strictly academic at this point. Basically, if you have the FX4 option, you gain additional traction control settings that optimize performance in various traction situations. They are Sand, Snow, and some other modes. They operate by using the ABS sensors and manipulating the brakes, etc. to simulate limited slip differentials, etc. in software (Like Subaru X-Mode). You access these modes by pressing a button on the Drivetrain Mode selection knob marked TM. The terrain modes are selected in a cycle by pressing the button and the selected mode appears in a graphic icon on the dash cluster. I have the XL trim level, so my dash cluster doesn't have the ability to display these icons. XL display is monochrome blue, with a few different color warning icons. So my description may be off a little bit due to a lack of direct experience.

The Terrain Modes put up a graphic of vehicle attitude (tilt angles in 3 axes), plus some other displays, like power levels (per wheel), and maybe some other stuff. This is a feature of the next trim level (XLT) dash cluster, which has the to do multicolor higher resolution graphics display. I have a buddy who bought an XL with the FX4 package, and his truck came with the XLT dash cluster.

My idea is that the mode / angle / power display information is almost certainly sent to the dash cluster over the CAN bus, but my dash cluster can't display it, so the messages are just ignored. It is possible that they are not even sent because they must be enabled (either in FORSCAN, or by having Ford install the FX4 package). But I don't know if they actually have a different ECU, TCM, etc. or if it's just a matter of configuration and display.

All this is something that might be able to be done with a small microcontroller and a small graphics screen installed somewhere in the truck. I was thinking of replacing the little plaastic tray on top of the dash with a switch panel and a small screen for some other functions like front camera, etc.
