Kanati trail hog vs cooper ST Maxx

So the Kanata at4 vs the Cooper st maxx are pretty much my only two options local. Wondering if anyone has any experience with these. Looking for winter snow ice and offroading experience if anyone's got them.

So this is the first I have heard of the Kanati tires. To say the least the AT4 does seem to have some good stuff for wet and winter conditions but since I do not know anything other then that I cant comment on it much.

As for the Cooper understand that it is a Mud Terrain tire. For OffRoad it will do great. For winter conditions(slick roads and stuff along with wet roads) the tire will not perform to the level you want. This can be said for all Mud Terrains out there.

With all that said in general a good All Terrain tire can do good in the snow as long as it is set up to handle the conditions. No not all tires are able to.

You might be wondering what I'm running on my truck right(if you dont know already)? Currently I am running the Firestone Destination XT in 285/70-17(the size doesnt matter too much for this). Before that I had the Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3 and then the Cooper Discovery M&S. I also had the factory tires but we wont speak on that much lol.

The Coopers I got were very nice for winter conditions on a truck. I had them studded and for the most part did what I needed them to do. They could do what you need for winter but might be a bit excessive for your winter needs.

The Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3 was an interesting tire to say the least. The tread pattern was something else to look at too. When it was new it did very well. After about 5,000 miles it lost all wet traction. In the snow it wasnt that great either. Should I mention that tire was not 3 peak rated either?!? now the tire was durable for OffRoad but other then that it wasnt too impressive.

Now for the Firestone Destination XT. For a full report I do have a thread with my review of the tire but I will give a quick basis for you here. For OffRoad the tire does well. It has not had problems with any Terrain I have thrown at it. Not even a puncture(know on wood). Wet traction is great and I was truly suprized with winter conditions. Yes the tire is 3 peak rated and it might be up your alley.

Now with all that said it is hard to say wich of the two original choices you are thinking of you should go with. If you decide you might want to consider something else then perhaps take the information I gave into consideration. If anything it may be worth trying the Katani AT4 but being a not so know tire it will be hard to truly know.

Ya it's not my first choice but Alaska has almost no tires in 285/70/17 that are 3 peak rated stuff and shipping here is 700$ on any tire you want so slim pickings. Just covid things. The kanati seem like duratrac twins and probably be my choice with studs. He'll even the stock tires have gotten me through snow as tall as the tires. 4x4 and locked diff do wonders

KO2's may be good OffRoad but the winter traction isnt that great. Just be warned on that. Also understand that there are other sizes you can put on the truck if that makes tire availability easier. 265/70-17 does pretty well and a fair bit of tires are available in that size including the two you mentioned to start.

Was really looking to get the bigger stuff. Originally going with kenda but the shipping got messed up and wasn't fun getting tires shipped so doing what they have local

Also looked for the size you mentioned it's pretty much the same, bad winter storms and rubber shortage equals basically no stock anywhere .

I can understand that. Just make sure you have the necessary things done to put the tire on. After that you should be good. Remember, not all tires are made equally

Ya I'm on 3" and crashbars are only in to see but I've already taken them out before isn't a new process to me.

Only new stuff intown from all the places and dealers ive talked to have cooper ST maxx and kanati trail hogs and a few of the cheap chinese brands i wont mention. havent seen any falkens or toyos etc.

Cooper is good company and makes a solid product they stand behind. They even still make a good amount of tires in the usa with american tax paying voters working the factories. kenda / mudhog / dirt king and so on may be great tires under certain constraints or situations. if i had a beater mud truck that i didnt need for anything except giggles and boob bouncing then sure, a set of kleavers or whatever they are would be fine and im off to red neck heaven to play in mud and soak in the bikini tops and beer... however, i would not trust them on a daily driver or over lander / camping rig etc. cooper is sold by nearly every major tire retailer in north america including discount tire ntb walmart sams etc. that means if you have a problem with the tires and need service or warranty then your back is covered. you can call up cooper on the phone and they speak english lol. i dont mean to sound like an ass by saying that. its my experience ,i need something taken care of its a lot easier to talk to jeff in Ohio than "jeff" in india. no i dont work for ctr or any tire shop lol. i dont even have coopers on my trucks at the moment. but, id take a set happily if i needed tires.

Kanati makes great tires. Had the trail hogs on my FJ cruiser. Have Cooper ST maxx on my ranger. They're both fantastic tires. I'd say the trail hogs did slightly better on ice, I think the Coopers are wearing slightly better. and maybe a little better in mud. They're both fantastic tires.
