I have the tuner in hand. Going rate at Ford dealer is between 450 and 500 dollars. Crazy for what they actually do.
Researching the general area for an ASE mechanic that I can work with.
Anyone have the install done in the 91764 area or within a reasonable travel distance?

Just do it yourself! If you have even limited computer skill, it is a slam dunk.

Contrary to popular belief, Ford dealers don't read the code every time you come in the door. I have a Borla made exhaust with Fords name on it, a Ford sold CAI, larger turbo tubes, and larger intercooler beside a modified Ford Performance tune. Not one word has been said to me by my local dealer. All they seemingly want to make sure of, is that I'm happy.

Oh! And if dealers limited service to those who have a clean slate, they'd go out of business!

Thanks for your reply.
I could do this easily. Nothing complicated about it.

Prefer to do this straight up. Not a gambler.

So you can just buy a Ford Performance Tuner yourself? What's the part number?

I believe you just hook up the Tuner to your computer, register the tuner to Ford, download the tune onto the Tuner. Then you plug in the tuner to your truck, save the stock tune into the tuner to "marry the tuner to your truck". Then you upload the FP Tune onto the truck's ECM and you should be good to go. I don't know why dealership charges that much to do all that. FYI, that tuner is married to the truck and should never leave the truck. Any time you take your Ranger to a dealership, let them know it has the FP Tune and to NOT overwrite or re-flash your ECM.

Keep us updated on how your FP Tuner works. I'll update mine in the near future.

That's insane.

I'm in SoCal too and am planning on adding the Ford Performance Tune as well. Someone better quote me a better price, I'm guessing they are quoting you the premium because you did not make the purchase from the dealer.

Did you call Galpin? They have their own performance division.

Insane it is. I got that quote from a dealer. I also talked to a Ford tech that actually does the installations. He said that is the cost.

I am looking for an ASE mechanic that I can do all the setup work on the computer and he does the actual install.
The search goes on. Googling my fingers off

I was lucky to find a deal on Amazon during the Black Friday Sale event. This was the last piece of the puzzle for me before installing a CAI, AFE Charge Pipe kit, Turbosmart BOV, and a MBRP Axle Dump Exhaust.

And when I say it is a night and day difference after installing the mods without the tune, huge difference. After I installed the mods, went on a quick test drive and you can definitely tell the difference, but when the tune was installed, it made all the mods seem to worked and flowed "together" much better, kind of like a well rehearsed orchestra. Seat of the pants acceleration is amazing. Throttle response is very responsive and crisp. And my favorite part are the turbo noises lol! Reminds me of the younger version of myself that still loves car noises lol!

My advise for the OP, save the money of having someone install it and do it your self. So simple. You are more than welcome to PM me if you have any question or need any help with the install.

Doesn't DIY void warranty?

Wow, and the kit is discounted to $645.00 right now! I just can't see if they are ASE certified or not....

That is what I thought also, but I haven't read anywhere that you are not allowed to install it yourself? Or maybe I missed that on the fine print? Either way, the only way they would void your warranty is if there is anything that failed that they can trace back and prove that it is due to the FPP tune. Worse case scenario if that did happen, they can only deny warranty on that failed part. They can't deny warranty on the rest of your vehicles components. Dealerships doesn't have crystal balls and can say that will fail in the future due to your tune.. By that time, I'm sure you will already have the stock tune back into the vehicle ? and they won't be able to tell that you had a performance tune installed before, well unless you left the tunner itself plugged in the truck.

Hope that made sense since I kinda just babble through the whole time

Yeah, I know about that "you have to prove the problem was created by the tune" theory. Just would MUCH prefer the peace of mind, and I'd guess if it did come down to it, they could tell your car had been tuned even if you reverse it before bringing into dealership, but that's just a guess...

On the same tune (er, note), I have a great relationship with my local service department and one service rep in particular...they warrantied a rear axle seal repair and balancing for me (on my 2020, I have a brand new 2021 now...) that was COMPLETELY my fault, I copped to it right away and he said "Eh, we'll just warranty it for you..." I was shocked...so at the end of the day I wouldn't stress too much, but I don't want to axiomatically void my warranty at the same time (worst case scenario....)
