This is just a short little howto on how to replace and adjust the fog lights on the 2021 fx4.
The fx4 has a skid plate under radiator (aka radiator skid) and a skid plate under the oil pan (aka oil pan skid) which interferes with accessing the fog lights from underneath. Not sure if other models have a splash shield blocking and this howto may help there as well.
I learned that removing the skid plates, takes about 5 minutes, is the easiest way to replace and adjust (up down) the fog lights. I initially replaced my fogs with LEDs via the area between the front of the front tire and the bumper which is a pain. I then needed to adjust the fog on one side. My newfound method makes both replace and adjust easy as pie.
1) remove the two rearmost bolts that attach the oil pan skid to the frame.
2) loosen but do not remove the two front most bolts that attach the oil pan skid to the frame.
3) slide the oil pan skid towards rear of the truck and remove skid.
4) remove the two front most bolts that attach the radiator skid while holding the pan up with your other hand and slide the skid towards the front of the vehicle and down to remove the skid.
5) each fog lamp assemble is now clearly accessible in each corner.
6) starting on either side, remove the light from the housing by turning the bulb counter clockwise.
7) remove the wire connector from the bulb. you have to push the tab down on the wire end and pull apart.
8) attach new bulb to the wire by pushing them together. They only fit one way.
9) install new bulb into housing by inserting into opening of housing and turning clockwise. You may have to wiggle back and forth so that the bulb ears mate to the housing area. If LED light, make sure the diode is facing the 3 and 9 oclock positions or close to it.
10)repeat steps 6 through 9 for the other side.
11) start truck and check light function and now adjust as needed.
to adjust:
1) there is a black gear on the leftmost part of the back of the lamp assembly that is used to lower or raise the light pattern.
2) parked near a wall, about 10 feet away, i merely had the beams where they were hitting the wall at around 2-3 feet.
3) rotate the black gear clockwise or counter clockwise and watch the beam raise or lower to where you want it. I am not sure which raises and lowers but its quite easy to tell once you move the gear some.
4) once satisfied with the beam pattern, button everything back up by reversing the steps above to install skids.
that's it!
I literally spent an hour installing both LED fogs by not removing the skids and i could not rotate the leds enought to get a perfect 3/9 oclock orientation. With the skids removed, i was able to easily rotate the bulbs to their completely locked positions and have a perfect 3/9 oclock now.
hope this helps someone!!
