FX4 Skid plate on a 2wd. Yup!

So got the FX2, Big Whoop, right? Well they were going to release it in '19 but who know what happened, Stock photos show the Truck with the FX4 Skid Plate, the purdy silver one! But take delivery, and guess what the bean counter did, that's right, they stuck a fake 1/2 depth silver piece of Plastic there in place of a real skid plate. Had custom brackets and was held on with like 10 bolts, really. WTF? So i ordered a real skid plate and was looking under there, there no place to arttatch the front of the skid plate. Hmm. Turns out, have to buy 4x4 tow hooks, so did that, and here you go! looking Good : ) Trans plate on back order..

Well fuck thats disappointing. I knew the FX2's get less skid plates but the one up front looks mostly metal...

Yeah, 'looks' is the key word, lol
Upgrade is easy. don't forget the 4x4 tow hooks, or you'll have nothing to bolt the front to ?

So the FX2 tow hooks are different?

No provision for bolting a skid plate to it. You'll need the skid plate bolts as well, the tapped holes in the frame should be there for the rear of the plate, they were in mine. and there is a small trans plate available as well. Pretty cheap, like 32 bucks at the dealer or something like that. I think I got six total extra bolts.

Opposed to the air dam on standard Rangers I kind of like the smoother appearance. I'd actually consider even the (I presume) lightweight plastic cover for my slightly (front) lifted RWD truck if there was some technical advantage - better cooling or recovering some MPG's on the highway. Certainly less ingesting roadkill bits? I doubt there were that many FX2 owners switching up who would be willing to swap back and forth with an air dam to check? Part number on the plastique? ($200+ for the metal one is a non starter for my curiosity)

Chunkier tires, but mainly the locking rear diff, suspension supposed to be a bit beefed up. Rear diff mainly though. worth the price. The original proto photos showed the full silver skid plate. Beans counters got to it, but everything else is still there.
