So I've checked all the things in the various threads I've found - door panels, etc but can't figure this out. When I go over something pretty rough, like a bad rail crossing, I hear a rattle from inside the truck. The trick is this: of you're sitting in the driver's seat, it 100% sounds like it is coming from the passenger door/dash area. Driver's side is dead quiet. If you're in the passenger seat, it sounds like it's coming from the driver's door/dash area. Passenger side is dead quiet. I've had several other's drive/ride, and they are hearing the same thing.

Before I take it to the dealer and they start ripping everything apart, I'm hoping to point them towards something likely if anyone here has experienced the same thing.

It's obvious...you have the dreaded "playful Gnome" living in your Ranger. Well known phenomenon that seems to plague certain owners. As you hear him on one side, he will run through the interior to some other spot, and jump up and down...it's his pointy hat that's making the noise.
Good luck tracking him down...their very quick...

Sure there's not a couple of coins or other rogue detritus deep inside your console or anything like that....? That's all I got.

Had the same thing. Mine was my sunglasses squeaking/rattling in the holder. Drove me nuts.

Check the glove box lock tumbler. Mine would do this very same thing and it took me months to identify it.

I did see your post on that and checked it. I've been waiting to see if there is a fix - I think someone was going to see about tearing it apart. It's quasi-loose so I locked it but it isn't the source of this rattle, as verified by me riding with my ear next to it while my kid drove back and forth over some tracks lol.

Still too new to have anything in the console yet and I emptied the glovebox of everything to try to rule out that sort of thing.

It's your sunglasses in the overhead compartment.
Hmm. I bet this is the cause. I don't keep mine up there but I'm sure if I look, the GF has stashed a pair there. If that is the solution, I'll buy you a beer.

Might also check the seat wiring harness. The passenger side on mine was routed very close to the heater duct outlet and seat mount plastic cover under the seat. Going over tracks could cause it to tap the plastic on the trim cover or vent snorkel.

It appears it was her sunglasses in the holder - I took them down and hit every rough patch I could find, dead quiet in the truck. This forum is worth every penny!

I had a round carpenter pencil in my dash cubby. I heard a rattle every time I applied the brakes. Couldn't see it because it was all the way back. rolling back and forth against the first rib stopping it from rolling all the way forward

Glad you found it. I am going to have to remember that. I had a rattle once that drove me crazy. Turns out I had the sun visor over the side window and extended and it was rattling against the door trim.
