Left my keyfob in my pocket and it went through the washer. Now the buttons aren't working. I know, I know...stupid.

So I unlocked my truck this morning using the key, only to discover that I had seconds to start the truck or the alarm would go off! What the heck??? I had an armload of stuff that I had to quickly set down on the ground so I could jump in the truck and start it.

Is this normal? Is there a way to keep this from happening?

Thanks.

Use the Key fob

If you use the blade you have 12 seconds to switch the ignition on

Manual doesn't mention it but you might try the fordpass app
he mentioned the buttons do not work after running it through the washer

Try putting a new battery in the FOB. When you have it open make sure it’s dry.

Didn’t you get 2 FOBS with the truck? If not I would definitely have some words about it

try locking the doors with the door lock button on the drivers door upon exiting the truck and the next time you use a key in the door it shouldnt set the alarm off.

I don’t carry the fob. It’s too big for my liking. I have a small chipped key I programmed using the two fobs. Even if I use the lock / unlock buttons on the door, I still have to turn the key to acc to stop the alarm. I wish too that I could simply turn the alarm off.

this doesn’t help. I have a similar “key fob works but truck doesn’t” problem. I have to key into the vehicle 90% of the time. And have to lock it with the door controls most of the time as well. The tail gate is the one thing you can unlock and lock with the key without setting off the alarm.

I did want to add, if a passenger opens any door after your key into the truck, then “button”unlock the doors for them - the 12 second delay goes away and the alarm instantly goes off. My wife and kids hate that…

I'd take your key fob apart and make sure it's totally dry inside. It sounds like the truck is having a hard time picking up the RFID in it?
