I have a 2021 Ford Ranger on order. Rear wheel drive. I have been reading on the forum about the bad ride of the Rangers. Is that just for the 4x4's or Rangers in general ? Reading a lot about changing the rear shocks and front shocks as well for some owners. Is this a 4x2 issue as I have only test driven 4x4's. Not many 4x2 around to test drive. Thanks

I wouldn't say it's a bad ride. Bit bouncy maybe. Worth remembering people on this forum fly into a rage every time they have to press a button to turn the Start/Stop off. :)

My wife has been with me on test drives and gets nauseous when she rides in it. I don't but she does. Like I said I have only test driven 4x4's.

I have a 4x2 and don't think it rides badly. The dealer had really over inflated the tires, which once fixed really improved the ride. I have no idea if the 4x2s have different rear shocks and also haven't seen any posts from someone specifically with a 4x2 complaining about the ride or bragging about how they fixed it.

I hadn't read anything either about the 4x2 having a bouncy ride. Just wanted to make sure

My wife isn't wild about the ride, though she's hardly used to trucks. It rides better than my first truck, which was a GMC Sonoma with ZQ8 sport suspension. It handled pretty good, but you felt every single road imperfection. Any truck I've been in has a ride that feels less refined than the Volkswagen she is used too. I think there's only so much you can do with a solid rear axle.

I test drove the FX4 SuperCab and I would describe the ride as "plush".
It's what I ordered and I think I'll appreciate it a lot on the horrible roads we have in Quebec

I don’t have many scabs on me currently, no injuries as of late. However, I may have some answers to your questions.

Sometimes the bumpiness/nausea is from the tires being over-inflated. I believe it sits around 35 psi but sometimes can be found at 40+ from dealership. That is problem one.

Problem two, shocks are not to everyone’s preferred ride. However, aftermarket shocks may firm up the boaty feeling/side to side wobble over bumps/turns.

Not sure about 4x2 but wouldn’t be too far to believe that it will still have side to side wobble/boaty feeling since it’s same tires and shocks. Then again I don’t know much about the differences between 4x2 and 4x4 in relation to the “bad ride”.

Put the Bilstein 5100 shocks on that and you will have it made in the shade. I love mine 1000%.
That is one nice looking Ranger you have. Mine will be a carbonized gray Lariat with the side steps as well

I’m in a 2020 XLT scab sport. At first I thought it was a little floaty Mc boaty. Now with a little over 11K on the odometer it doesn’t feel like that anymore. I run tires at 30 psi. Eventually will upgrade the shocks though. Probably go with Stage 1 FP Icon shocks. Just don’t see the need for it right now as the ride isn’t as bad as the FX4 shocks. Your mileage may vary. I think the Sport shocks are different then what’s put on most of the trucks delivered though.

2021 XLT 2WD Supercab. I thought the rear shocks did not control the rear spring very well. I put Bilstein 4600’s on the rear of mine and think it makes a nice difference. It’s not stiffer, but controls the rebound better. I find it rides like a truck, but I bought it to be my lighter duty truck since I already have a C 2500. This works for me, but I’m sure others may chose to differ.

Mine rides great. No need to change anything.

Mine will be carbonized grey as well, but XLT. Sometimes though, I want to change my order to silver...

Well I tried changing my order to cactus gray, but when I went to my dealer to change color he gave me my vin # and was too late.
