Brand new Ranger. Installed scan gauge. Set up Xgague for trans temp and cylinder head. I thought I read the 2019+ has a cylinder head temp sensor. I get no reading for cylinder head temp. I’ve checked the data entry on my gauge setup. I contacted Linear and sent them the requested info, but have heard nothing from them yet. Any experience here that might help figure out how to get cylinder temp?

I have set it up in Xguage. It does not read. I still haven’t heard from Linear yet. I’m not sure how their customer support does, but I still hope they or the forum have a solution. Thanks

The trans codes are on the Xguage page at Linear-Logic.

Also, I got some new codes for cylinder temp today. I have not had time to look at them yet. I will report back when I know more.

Maybe the cyl head temp is a switch only at a certain temp?

Here is what Scanguage sent:

Please try the following XGauge code and let me know if it reports

Cylinder Head Temperature (°F)
TXD: 07E0220334
RXF: 046205030634
RXD: 3010
MTH: 000700FA0000
NAM: CYT

Not sure when I’ll take the Ranger for a drive, but I’ll make a post after I have more evidence. It was responding as the truck idled and seemed about as I would have expected.

Ran the truck today. 80 mile round trip flat highway driving. The updated codes from Linear seem to work.

What would the cylinder head temp range be? I just monitor the engine water temp and that alone can get scary when towing. I am thinking I need to upgrade the radiator and I do not even have that large of a travel trailer compared to others in here.

230-232F is what I hit on this one hill in particular in NV on the way back from Utah. Granted we are in summer and temps around 100-110F but the temp gauge hasn't moved past middle ever and one time I hit 236F. Usually she is in the 215-225F range when towing depending on what's going on.

I haven’t owned the Ranger very long, and won’t tow extensively with it until December. So, I don’t have ”normal” numbers yet. I am watching trans, water, and head temps on my Scanguage. I would not pay much attention until around 220 F. After that, I’d not want to see trans or head above 230. Water can be a little higher as long as it’s short term. I’d like trans to stay under 200, and water and head to stay under 220, but I don’t know where the temp readings are taken on the truck, and don’t have any average baselines yet. I only have 1179 miles on the truck at this point, and only a 150 with the Scanguage. So, I am making semi educated guesses at this time.

I havent towed yet, but my normal water temp is between 197F-202F, I havent even been able to get higher when driving in 90F-100F degree ambient.

DO i drive abnormally slow or is that normal for not towing?

I haven’t seen any temps above 200 yet, but I do expect when under load in hot weather to see them. Trans temp is keeping an eye on fluid, water is the general temp and head is in case of some catastrophic rapid change that I might be able to take action to save the engine. I chose that as a precaution since the truck does not report oil pressure on the bus.

Just around town in the 108F temps we have right now will show water temp between 197-202F range but trans as high as 215F. I generally seem to find the trans temp about 10F warmer. SO I figure my towing temps can't be too off and since this truck is rated for 7500lb towing, I am trying not to worry but I can't help but want a radiator upgrade for peace of mind. Plus I want to eventually get the Ford Performance tune on the truck.
