Here's a video from this father-son team that offers services to help buy cars. They're sort of goofy, but can be interesting at times. The father is a retired sales manager and son is just his son who thought they could make some money peddling the fathers experience. But anyway.

They actually do offer some good advice which helped me when getting out of my wife's Escape lease into purchasing our Ranger Tremor. I will have to watch this out of curiosity later but at least my Tremor had two things that raised my eye brow.

1: the left rear window plastic trim was out of place. I had to remove the molding and remove some torx to install it correctly. I think I was so focused on dings that I missed that being a black vehicle.

2: Noticed an imperfection/dirt(?) under paint the last time I washed the truck

(edit):3: Almost forgot, the stamping on the rear left door at least is quite wavy where the window is. It is kind of a "whatever" thing but I catch it when looking out of my sideview mirror at times in which is annoys me for a moment. Eh, it is a truck but sheesh Ford, these aren't cheap either.

I wish I could get a good picture of the tiny rust colored dots in the paint on my ranger. they have been there since day I got it at 12 miles on the odometer. this is the only ford product I have ever owned , so I have limited experience.

I've had three new Ford's in the last decade or so. And various used Fords

Our old Ecape was fine. Had a recall that got fixed before we had any issues with it. Also had some evap parts go bad on the capless fuel filler @ about 75k. But nothing that ever caused major issues.

My FiST had some chrome coating flake off in the interior, replaced by Ford @ 35k miles. Other than that, flawless.

The Ranger has been great so far, knock on wood.

That being said I try not to sweat little stuff like minor paint flaws and what not.

In the last 15 years or so we've bought 6 new cars from Ford, Mazda, and Subaru. They've all been mostly on par. With the two Subarus being top of the list for quality.

Ford's biggest problem with quality is the same as the other domestic manufacturers. It's their union obligations. If they could just get rid of the union they'd be alright.

That's likely from rail transport.

Have you tried a claybar?

It is well known in the top circles at Ford that quality under CEO Hackett degraded significantly. What is concerning is if anyone is doing anything to remedy this slippage? So far I see new vehicle launches that are going poorly and quality problems getting worse... Wake up Ford...it takes more than Jim Farley to flag this and start doing something to remedy this.... I think Farley feels like he is pushing a rope trying to get the rope to move....

Best,
Phil

I'm not a fanboi of any brand. The Ranger is my first Ford, and first American vehicle for that matter. I had a Honda first, and it was great but I wrecked it one too many time. A couple Subaru brats as 2nd vehicles and they were great but liked to rust. Then a Toyota car, which was great, then a Toyota truck as a 2nd vehicle which was great. I kept both of those for 20 years plus. Then a BMW but maintenance was going to kill me so I sold it once the warranty expired. Then a Mazda which I guess is sort of American, then another Sub. They were all great. Then I wanted another truck and there wasn't any mid-sized I felt was up to snuff except the Ranger.

I love the Ranger. Would like to buy a hybrid if they offer one, and it's not riddled with quality problems, so we'll see.

Had 4 fords in my life, also products from Land Rover, Nissan, Kia, and Hyundai. I liked all of my Fords including my current Ranger. Nevertheless I always thought they could have all have built just a little bit better. My Capri, Falcon Hardtop, and Bronco, all rusted because Ford simply couldn't be bothered to paint and seal them properly, and annoying little things broke that really shouldn't break, from a company that has been building cars for more than a century.

Nevertheless they were all a pleasure to drive, easy to service, durable, and fairly reliable. The Ranger feels much better built and finished than all my previous Fords but still not quite up to the fit and finish on our (Korean built) Kia Sportage (second one I've owned - now driven by my oldest son) and my wife's Hyundai Santa Fe

After owning Fords since 1986 I can say that I've been quite lucky with the major running works of the vehicles. But, the little things that matter have been a bit of a different story. The worst was the wifes '13 Mustang. Little cosmetic problems that were fixed by the dealer were numerous, i.e. the puddle lights, misaligned drivers window, etc. The hood on her '18 Mustang was so far right there was almost no gap on that side. The left side half door on my Ranger came with a misaligned latch that caused the door to drag. Funny side story here was the dealers body shop said they could take a mallet, and beat the latch into place. Of course I declined, and now from use it's just worn in to where it doesn't drag anymore. But, for the most part the 8 new Fords I've bought were fine vehicles. Our '95 Crown Vic, '97 F-150, '04 Grand Marque, '10 Mustang, '11 F-150, and '13 F-150 were only in for oil changes and regular maintenance. So, even though there were minor cosmetic issues as you can see I'm sold on Ford.

BTW Even my first truck, a '79 F-250 with like 200K miles only needed a fuel pump the 5 years I owned the old hooptie, and my '04 preowned F-150 Lightning only needed oil changes (and of course a lot of gas). :)
