My daughter always liked Jeeps and when she turned 16 I got her an extremely clean and original 1997 Wrangler. Girlie Jeep, 4 cylinder, automatic. I got new front fenders and had it repainted, fixed it up pretty nice with a new Bestop, soundbar and stereo, Banks header and exhaust, Airaid intake. She loved it and it was great for putting to high school and college but when she began working for a living with an actual commute to work the poor kid was buying two or three tanks of gas a week. I told her she could buy a brand new small car with A/C and more reliable and not spend any more on a monthly payment than she was throwing away on gas. Traded it on a new 2014 Fiesta that she still has.Jeep "jeeps" and gladiators line used car lots everywhere. I think stay at home mommy and hipster dad buys them and then realizes they are not what they think they are Hence, so many for sale on the used side.
My GF has had 2 of the grand Cherokees and loves them. No trouble from either one.
