SSM 47812 - 2017-2019 F-150, 2018-2019 Expedition/Navigator/Mustang, 2019 Ranger – 10R80 - Whine Noise

Some 2017-2019 F-150, 2018-2019 Expedition/Navigator/Mustang, 2019 Ranger vehicles equipped with a 10R80 transmission may exhibit a whine noise. This may occur at idle and while driving coming from the bell housing and front pan area of the transmission. The whine noise may become louder when at operating temperature and increases with higher engine RPM in the PARK position. A small amount of whine noise is considered to be characteristic of the 10R80 transmission due to the offset gear drivetrain in the front support and has no effect on durability.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES
2017 - 2019 TRUCK: FC P552N F-150
2018 - 2019 TRUCK: B8 U553N EXPEDITION
2018 - 2019 TRUCK: B9 U554N NAVIGATOR
2018 - 2019 CAR: ZG S550N MUSTANG
2019 TRUCK: FG P375N RANGER

Does anyone get the whine noise in reverse? Is that one normal?
The wife's A10 Mustang GT has a low whine in reverse. I'm fairly sure we're working with the same tranny. It's been discussed on the Mustang Gen6 forum also.

My truck started this whine at 1,000 miles. Not really noticeable from outside the truck but very obvious inside while driving :-/

I'd this noise is considered normal then why did mine not start. Until. After I had about 1000 miles on it?

Gotta love "some may", this is a normal characteristic due to the offset gears. So then, why only "some" whine??

Not having ever had a vehicle with this transmission, I have to ask why wouldn't it make the noise right after delivery? The dealer made the trade with a dealer in Cincinnati OH, I am in central Indiana, so the truck had a 70mph + road trip to get here right off the bat. Obviously not been driven hard, just wondering why the sound wasn't there from the start?

Mine started after 1000 miles +or- , I confirmed it was the tyranny by accident, had my palm resting on top of the shifter and could feel it. Started again after the stop sign. I've grown accustomed to it and hasn't gotten worse

Post a video of the noise, I'll let you know if it sounds like mine.
Also, I can't find the SSM 47812 you referenced.
I only found SSM 47515

Where does your statement come from, Ford? Do you have a link?

why didn't it start from the beginning???

because you drive it.

things wear/break-in, whatever you want to call it. this is a noise that develops after use.
Mine has 10k with no wine. I guess mine is not in the "some" category. ???? :whew:

I've got over 11k on mine and don't hear any whine. But I do recall seeing a TSB saying a whine was characteristic of the transmission and it didn't hurt anything.
