paying anything below a quoted price is giving it away for free.
my time is money. I value my money and i charge accordingly for my services.
if you cant grasp supply and demand, then by all means dont ever go to that shop ever again...your loss will not be noticed. sorry to say. someone will fill your spot faster than you can slam the door shut when you walk out angry at the price.

How much did you make typing out this drivel.

FLAME WAR!!! *Tosses grenade*

Sooo much butthurt....feels like a mentstrual cycle just blew through here at 180mph. By the way, that's 289.7kph/Canadian. The sense of entitlement in this post is astounding. A business owner sets his own price schedule and it's none of your F-ing buisiness how they came to those decisions. If you don't like the price quoted for a job, don't complain to the owner and don't ask for an explanation as to why the price is so high. Simply say thank you then close your friggin mouth, turn around, and get on down the road. They don't owe you anything. At the top of that list is an explanation. Eventually, the problem will take care of itself as word gets around. You all know how the rumor mill works. The OP was quoted $500 for removing his crash bars. By the time his story makes it out the other side of the rumor mill in whatever city he lives in or makes the rounds on his favorite internet forum, he will have been quoted $1500 for replacing the air in his tires and people will start avoiding that business based on what they heard from their father's brother's cousin's nephew's former roommate's Facebook feed. And if you didn't catch that Spaceballs reference, I don't think we can be friends anymore.

But to get back on off topic. Who cares.

The OP laughed and its "nobody's F-ing business" why their body felt like letting out a laugh. Same thing right? Nobody said they can't charge that much, its their business they can do what they want. And yes I have seen Spaceballs but it was so long ago I hardly remember it anymore so if you don't want to be friends so be it.

Hey we're all hypocrites here.
Amen.
That said, it was not I that proclaimed "who cares". So if you're inferring that we share hypocrisy equally on this topic, I disagree and not respectfully either. I'm enjoying the living shit out of this because I care...deeply! Ok, your turn.....

$500 for crash bar removal sounds like his hourly rate is higher than my boat mechanics! And that's hard to do! HAHAHA!!!!

If it simply was JUST removing the crash bars that seems extremely high. I paid 400.00 to have mine replaced with the Fabtech crash bars, but that involves a lot of cutting and grinding of the original bars to put in the new ones.

Question. I replaced my own crash bars with a set of the ReadyLift ones.

I took the time to undo things like trim and the bumper to remove the factory bars in one piece.
but here I am a couple months later and I am still kicking around four stupid square pipes that I will probably never put back on the truck. Yet I cant bring myself to send them to the county landfill.
Should I just pitch them and move on? or save them for some reason? and in retrospect, If I do landfill them I will kick myself for not just using a cutoff wheel in the first place to remove the old ones rather than all the time to undo little fiddly plastic clips!

by the way, I billed myself One Meeeeeeeeelion dollars to do the work.

Then why are they not present on Raptors overseas?

I'm not saying they don't serve a purpose, but I think it has more to do with appeasing US government than being consumer minded.
USA 150 Raptors don't have them either...

IDK...$500 is pretty nuts...if you figure a fully equipped shop charges $100/hour for 5 hours...that's seem pretty incompetent to me and smells like a big rip off...time is money but when working on your truck is your hobby, who's counting...DIY when ever possible...

yeah, they gotta pay for those shop tools and a lift as well. that shit isnt free either. neither is the air compressor to run them or the lights to see what their doing....you get it though. you're not that dumb to realise all of this.
The national average rate for a mechanic is $80-100/hr. If you are quoted 5 times the national average and you arent laughing at it, maybe its you who IS that dumb to realize all of this.

Average is just that...a halfway number between a high and low. So if he lives in a high (see what I did there) area, they are quoting a 2.5 hr job
