also, make sure the key opens the door both ways meaning either side up....it should.
Checked and works
Was able to go thru the steps without getting no key detected, but still no joy.
I may need to go back to the locksmith as I just realized they destroyed my key and replaced it with "the same".
I am also 2019, but cannot beleive key programming would be possible on 2021 and not a 2019.

so make sure that you are in the truck with the doors closed. i was told that matters by locksmith but i was already closing the door when he said that.

i was in the truck, doors closed. doors unlocked. engine off. everything off.

put 1st key in ignition and turn all the way to on/run but not starting it. wait for the chime and light to go out. i think it was more like the light for the airbag thing. then take out, put second working key in there and repeat. take that out and then put new one in and turn it all the way like the others and wait. you have to go fast for the first two steps. my first two times i went slower and it did not work but i did get the "no key detected" warning those two times. then it worked on 3rd try.

and how did they destroy your key and they actually replaced one of your keys with one they had? seems sketchy to me. If they destroyed your key and replaced it with a fob but didn't program it, then it's a non-working key. You need 2 working fobs to do this. If they destroyed your original then they are going to have to program a new one by hooking up to the truck. That should be totally free for you. Tell me who i need to avoid.

I think it was the new kid. It wasn't a fob just the chipped spare key LINK. They then cut a non-chipped "practice Key" to confirm they had the right cutting setup. Then cut me a new chipped key, looks same as what I got off Amazon. But....
Now do you have auto start? I dont see why that would be different WRT the chip. I do know the fobs are a different frequency for with and w/o auto start.

i do not have autostart from the fob. If you got the same fob i got, you got the wrong key fob. You needed to look at the key fob for sale and compare to yours........that can explain it.

The difference is in the details. What is the part number of the keys that work.

I was able to get new keys off amazon, a fob and a chipped key, and have a locksmith laser cut them. Then I programmed them both using my ignition on my 2021.

you don't need both originals to make another key that starts your car or unlocks your car. that is ONLY true if you only have the two original keys. LOL. Once i made a 3rd key, the new fob, I used that one along with an original to program a 4th.

unless this functionality wasn't in the 2019's or 2020's, you should be able to bypass the expensive dealer and locksmith and do yourself if you have two working keys. They don't have to be originals.

and cutting the keys is a less than 5 minute job that should cost you 10$ and no more. i watched. quite simple.

Hey All
Just to summarize my situation in one place for those that may come later.
  • I have an XLT with remote start - flip key fob
  • I have both original Keys
  • MyKey shows 2 admin Keys
  • I am trying to add this chipped spare key LINK (others including OP have indicated success)
So far I have not been able to program the key to my truck. I can follow the process and believe its correct as I can get to the point where I insert the new key and I do not get the "No Key Detected" error, but no lock/unlock cycle and "Key Successfully Programmed" ?

One potential issues is battery needs to be fully charged and mine wasn't. I have charged it over night and driven it a lot the weekend. But still no luck. Now I don't know about the rest of you but our charging system is a bit odd IMHO, so I am not ready to say this is still not my issue.
The other possibility is that @silverflash and @Murph (who have both used these steps and successfully programmed keys) do NOT have remote start. Not sure why this would matter, but who knows! If you have remote start flip key fob (non-Lariat) and have been able to program new keys yourself please reply! For that matter if you tried and failed as I have also please reply!

If u have remote start, did you order the exact same fob off Amazon? I will say that I was able to create just a dummy chipped key that starts truck but isn't part of a fob so I would bet you should be able to use any fob but then maybe not as I have read the fob needs to be exactly the same. Perhaps the chip key without a fob gets a pass with the system as it doesn't see the door locking unlocking functionality. Did u get the correct new fob off Amazon? You should not be trying the one I got which doesn't have remote start.

Well I was able to program that one with my original fob key abd a new fob key I had literally made a minute prior using both originals. Seems like u r skipping a step or going too slow or fast.

Have tried fast and slow! Although I do the key swaps fast. But here is what I have tried. I started using the chimes as my count as 4 chimes is about 5-6sec.
So below refers to trying each set of steps with 1 to 4 chimes. Also note that after 4 chimes the airbag light turns off.
  1. Insert 1st Key. Turn to ON(RUN), wait for X chimes turn off and remove
  2. Insert 2nd Key. Turn to ON(RUN), wait for X chimes turn off and remove
  3. Insert NEW Key. Turn to ON(RUN), I have tried leaving this key in for over 30sec and a couple of times much longer. Also turning to off (per instructions that came with the key) after X chimes.

You dont need 2 original keys, but you do need 2 unique keys. Keys can be cloned, so it sounds like one of your keys is a clone of the other, which won't work. A locksmith will have to program another unique code for you to be able to add keys. Otherwise, you can just keep cloning the 1 you have.

Could be, my truck was a demo....
Will get the other key programmed by a locksmith this week.
