Here's our typical 2800 watt inverter set up

Hi Robert,

I very clean installation....Impressive. I have six AGM 6V batteries wired to a Xantrex Freedom 456 modified signwave inverter...2000W.... I will need to replace with a pure signwave and am looking at a Magnum 2000W pure signwave inverter. In the RV world, LiFePo are prone to be problematic in very cold winter weather....Do you worry about this with your install. Folks are using heating pads to keep the batteries warm as well thermoisolating boxes custom built. I decided to stick with AGM.... Most of my motorhome friends stick with flooded cell golf cart batteries from Sam's or Costco....

Morning Phil,

Many of our coaches spend a lot of time in Canada in the fringed temps. We don't have a problem with the AGM batteries as long as you get a quality battery. I suggest Deka made products. Think they are manufactured by East Penn. They seem to survive more than other manufacturers. We used the LifePro and Lifeline brands in the past and you are correct. These tend to fail significantly faster. As for the Magnum Inverters, you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality and durability of this unit. Keep it dry and it is damn near bulletproof. They are very user friendly and have a lot of add-on options. I use Magnum on everything but lithium batteries. If you was interested in lithium the weight benefits and voltage curve have to be weighted against the sufficient price difference. That being said I would use a Victron inverter/ charger.

P.S.
Make sure your friends using flooded batteries keep their carbon dioxide detectors tested often. Over charging could produce deadly fumes. Just FYI pretty sure you aware of this?

As being a guy that has experienced a battery explosion/fire..... nope. Don’t forget some battery’s can create hydrogen gases...

Yeah, LiIo and Lead Acid can be hazards if not properly used. Newer tech like LiFePo4 and related are much more stable. Just $$$$.

LiFePo4 batteries will last longer, weight less and you get more power from them. You can discharge them below freezing. What you must never do is charge them below freezing temps. You will destroy them faster than an undampered tailgate drops. Better batteries have a BMS with built in temp sensors that will prevent them from being charged in below freezing temps. I think Battleborn now makes one that has a built in heating pad that keeps the battery warm until its completely discharged.

For comparison, An AGM or FLA battery, you may get 40% of the rated amp hours from them before they are flat, where a lithium battery can go all the way to zero. So on a 100AH rated battery, you get the full rated 100AH. on an AGM, you get maybe 40AH from a 100AH battery and they are twice as heavy.
