I’ve had my truck for two damn years now and I’m STILL naked with just a plastic bed liner. I’m like my ex when it comes to truck bed accessories. I’ve went back and forth between tonneau covers, hard rolling, tri fold, solid lid, bed caps etc. my preferred set up would be something like truck vault with a nice topper. But damn that’s a lot of money for both set ups. But the bed vault would offer real security for guns, expensive tools etc. then all the extra space up top for storage.

Diamondback seems to make a very nice cover. If you can get their HD version there’s even cleats (like 10 or 12)for carrying stuff on top. It’s rated at like 1600 pounds. Impressive, but expensive.

But my cheap ass will never go for that I don’t think, maybe on my next truck.

After two years I’ve finally narrowed my search down to a vinyl roll cover lol. I WOULD love the extra security of a hard rolling one, but I’ve read some negative reviews about the vinyls and slats coming loose and over all doesn’t seem to hold up to the elements. But if there’s one out there that’s proven, secure and durable I for sure would likely go that route.

Truxedo sentry looks interesting.

I have the Bestop 16232-01 - Bestop EZ Fold Tonneau Covers which is a soft Tonneau that essentially locks with the tailgate. I like that it is light, easy to remove and inexpensive. $300 from Summit Racing but I bought mine fron Etrailer.com who matched the price. I did that because I like their customer service.

I had a hard 2 piece cover on my Sport Trak but I was so heavy that I needed help getting it off.

Don't think anyone has mentioned the retract pro MX or XR yet. Only difference between the two are the T slots on the XR (the one i have).i wanted something that would roll up and opens without out having to open tail gate. It is made out of aluminum and can hold up to 200lb. Cons yes the housing takes a bit of space and you do have to drill 2 holes to channel water. But if you can find a great deal i would recommend especially the ones with the T slots. I constantly searched on craigslist and landed the XR for $650 with a bit of hail damage but water tight and functional....

I would say it depends on your end goal on what the best one for you is though. Here is the link to what it looks like. https://retrax.com/retraxpro-xr/2019/ford/ranger

I’ve got the RetraxPro XR and I’m very happy with it. Feels very secure and I’ll be able to install a rack system with a pop up tent on top. It can sustain 500 lbs of snow.

Another vote for the Bak X4s, I compared it with the others at the local truck accessory shop and it was the best, by far. No, it's not a cheap option, but it's arguably the best option for a cover, IMO. When rolled completely up, you have access to the whole bed and nearly full visibility out the back window. The material and hard, aluminum slats are top notch as well. Edit: And made in the USA.

You'd have to make a trip to southern California, so I dont think this is an option for you, but i am going with a powder coated Rac N Cap.

It opens up to be a truck rack so you can carry large items.

Check out the video here.

They are $1699 + tax installed. $1999 if you want it powder coated.

I don't have a need for one, but if I was a contractor I'd seriously consider it.

Truxsport Truxedo roll up. Pretty cheap but works well for me and I don't lose room in the already miniscule bed.

Basically the same as the Truxedo Sentry CT, however I have seen lots of reviews that in the heat of the South, the tape that holds the slats to the top gives way, not sure if they have corrected or not. I hope I do not have any issues with the Truxedo but it has been 18 months , and 1 hot summer and had no issues, top still looks brand new.

You need to remember that the gate locks. And just about all covers only open from inside the bed, not from the top. So, if the gate is locked then the top is locked, for all intents and purposes.
