I think the newer F-150's have all aluminum bodies. It would interested to know why the Ranger body is not all aluminum but has only those 3 areas in aluminum?
Thanks.
Current F-150's are all aluminum.

Only Ford could answer that question about the Ranger though. I've heard speculation it was due to it being difficult to source enough aluminum for the entire body, but who knows.

I recently purchased a 2021 Ranger XLT sport 4 x 4. While washing it last week I noticed a factory paint flaw. The color is carbonized grey metallic. The flaw is only noticeable under certain light conditions. Here are some pictures so you can see exactly what I am talking about. As you can see in the pics it’s a vertical line that appears to be darker than the paint job itself. under certain light conditions you can barely see it unless you know where to look for it. It’s under the clearcoat. When I took it up to the Ford body shop to have them look at it to see what could be done they say the only option is to break the factory paint seal and repaint it which I’m not that crazy at all about doing. I don’t want the solution to become worse than the problem itself. I’m just wondering if anybody else has had any paint flaw situations where they could share their input with me and give me some advice on whether I should live with it or get it repaired. I also have some other issues with the hood alignment and driver door alignment however that’s a whole other thread LOL any input would be greatly appreciated.

Blueboost I also have the door issue on driver side Where the bottom sticks out a little. The body shop at the Ford dealer told me they can adjust it for me. I also have an issue with the hood alignment and the bed to cab alignment. The bed is flush with cab on driver side but in about half inch on passenger side. It’s unbelievable how they let these trucks come out of the factory.

Leave it alone. I had a piece of debris in my paint and the dealer and I decided that it's better to leave it. You can never duplicate factory paint.
Actually a good body shop painter will do a much better job than the factory. The problem is finding a good one. Factory paint jobs have more flaws than you can imagine. The paint used at the assembly plant is no different than what they use in most high quality body shops.

Agreed, but getting it to match the rest of the truck definitely requires skill, particularly with metallics.

I'm glad to hear you're leaving it alone. The chances are, this isn't the only paint flaw on your truck.

It sucks, but Ford's quality control is not the best. Ill fitting panels, pad paint, etc.; you've probably heard it all. I have a 2014 Mustang GT, and it has a big ol' paint run on a front fender. The bumper to body fit on the back of the car is crap. But I love that car as much as the flaws annoy the crap out of me.

My Ranger has really crappy door fitment, and tons of pain flaws. I guess if I wanted something better I should have bought a Lexus! HAHAHA!

Very true, especially with silver and light color metallics. A lot of inexperienced painters have problem with laying the metallic blends down correctly. Color can look great straight on but at an angle it doesn't match.

I got lucky with the bed alignment and (for the most part) the hood and fenders. I think; I'm not the most eagle-eyed with these things. But it is amazing how such basic things go awry in a truck that's been around for 10 years being built at multiple sites.

This was not a paint flaw but a local dealership brought four different Ford vehicles to a big local indoor car show we just had. The FX4 Ranger they had on display had a completely jacked up FX4 sticker on the bed. Tons of big bubbles in it and a big rip right down the middle and yet there it was like everything was OK LOL.

LEAVE IT ALONE. I REPEAT. LEAVE IT ALONE.
AGREE! i grew up in a body shop and guarantee they are not re painting the whole truck..Reshooting a section will result in it NEVER matching.
kudos to your eye, but you are opening a huge can of worms.

If that’s your experience then you grew up around a shop that took little pride in its work.
The factory finish is always best to preserve if possible on account of the corrosion treatments and controlled conditions used to put the finish on a naked unbuilt body. Unfortunately vehicles must be painted sometimes and Panel shooting (only refinishing the necessary panels) is best practice.
Paint can Always be matched by a component professional.

My drivers side door sticks out at the bottom as well and it drives me crazy.

It also causes a lot of road/wind noise as I don’t believe the weather stripping is contacting as it should.

I am going to eventually get it into the dealer to see if the can adjust it.

You dont kno me and i take offence to your bullshit running your mouth. any fool, except you obviously knows no matter how 'good' a shop is you will never be able to shoot a section to 100% match. saying it will proves you are a novice. Ive seen vehicles painted on the factory line that 2 weeks later tho supposedly the same color dont match 100%. spray nozzles degrade, get replaced/cleaned. particulate ratios vary just enough. So suk it you little piss ant POS.
