New tires and wheels on the way!

Yesterday I bought my wife a new 2021 Ranger, so today I ordered her new tires and wheels.

17x8.5 Method 305 NV wheels (titanium with black rings), 285/70R17 load range "C" BFG All Terrain tires, mounted and balanced with new TPMS sensors and black small-diameter splined lug nuts.

I still gotta decide what we're gonna do for suspension. I'm leaning towards the King 2.5s with reservoirs, all the way around. And Camburg UCAs to make it a mid-travel set up...

They're zero offset, with 4.75" backspacing, and 8.5" rim width. They only come one way, other than color choice, at least in the 17" size.

The 703 is the same way- it only comes in a 16x8 zero offset with 4.5" backspacing, or 17x8.5 zero offset with a 4.75 backspacing.

I’m interested in this tire size as well. The problem I have run into is they were all load range E which are going to be super heavy on a ranger. A lot of people with E range seem to complain of sluggish performance due to all the weight extra weight from 4 additional ply’s.

if you got the LT285/75r16 ko2 I believe you are replacing a 40lb tire with a 59lb tire. I do not think any weight savings over 17s are happening there. In fact I think the ride quality will actually suffer. I am still looking to see if any tires are available in SL or C ranges which would be much better on the ranger.

I am guessing you are in West Texas with lots of driving on unpaved, rutted out, roads. This is where reservoir shock absorbers would be helpful.

Central Texas. The roads aren't too bad here- we're building this to improve it's off-road capabilities, while trying to keep it fairly streetable. No roll cage, bed cage, three-link, or 3" triple-bypass shocks sticking up through the hood.

If you add almost 80 lbs of unsprung weight to the Ranger I don't think that you will be able to describe it as "fairly streetable." It will be more like, "Yeah, I'm glad it's got a turbo charger or I'd never be able to get this thing up to speed by the end of the freeway entrance ramp." There are lots of guys on this forum with tires that big and heavy and I think they really like them, so I'm not knocking your choice. I'm just not certain you are aware of how big a performance hit it takes for everyday driving.

Edit: I've been looking at your setup. I actually think it will do pretty well. The wheels certainly look good. If you want to try to save weight, you might investigate some of the 275/75-16R - WAIT - That doesn't exist. I'm thinking about 17" wheels. Hmm.

If you go to 17" wheels your choices are so much better. BFG KO2 in 285/70-R17 are load range C and brings the weight down to 50 lbs. Almost 10 lbs lighter and only 10 lbs heavier than stock.

Okay, guys, you've convinced me- I changed my order to the 17x8.5 size wheel and the 285/70R17 size tire in a "C" load range.

This will be better on the street, and if I start tearing up tires off road, I can always switch to the same tire and size, in an "E" load range.

I think in the end you will be happier. Are those beauty rings on the method wheels replaceable? If so you can always swap one out if you knick up the outer rim face. The nice thing about concave wheels is all the pretty stuff sits inside the sidewall of the tire to keep them in mostly good shape.

Before you buy UCAs, make sure they will work with your spindle. If the spindles are aluminum (silver) they certainly will fit. If the spindles are black (cast iron and rusty) they probably wont. There are some other forum topics that discuss this.
