Got my 2020 Ranger SuperCrew about a month ago. It was cloudy the day I picked it up but during my initial walk around everything seemed fine.

A couple of days later when it was very sunny outside I noticed a plethora of scratches on my driver's side window and back glass. Looks like somebody took sandpaper and rubbed it in circles.

Distraught I headed back to the dealer and they agreed to replace both...after a bit of back and forth on what caused the issues.

So this week I went in for the repairs but they had ordered the wrong driver window but did have the back glass. I cringed at the thought of replacing the glass on a brand new truck, but not any other options really. Anyhow, after replacing the back glass, and after I got back home, I looked it over. The replacement glass is even worse than what they took out! Has a chip in it and several scratches, scuffs, and abrasions. WTH!

This was a Ford OEM replacement glass. I immediately called them back to vent my frustration. They said they would order another one and try again...along with the door window. Anyone else having glass issues? Does Ford have a glass quality issue? The other windows and windshield had a few places on them too but nothing bad enough for replacement. I love the truck but these glass issues are crazy. Thanks for your responses.

Haven't heard or experienced that issue before. Owned for 18months and 30k miles. I wonder if it's the way your dealer handles the windows. They could've accidentally scuffed the windows originally during cleaning, and then the same guys probably cleaned it again after installing the new one, thereby damaging that one in the same way. Just a theory to consider.
Thanks for the responses. I had thought of that too...that they had damaged them at the dealer. But the new back glass was put in by a glass shop near the dealer...so not people that are working at the actual dealership. I really hate how they act like no way they could've done it. I'm not sure what someone would even use to cause such damage.

Dirty cloth that was dropped on the floor used to dry the windows could cause it maybe.

Ha! You know that's probably way closer to the truth than anyone would admit. Really disheartened that the replacement glass looked even worse. It has scratches, smudges, and what looks like glue or fingerprints between the glass. I hope the replacement next week is way better. If not I'll just keep on it till they get it right.

Hi Anthony,

This should not be happening to you. New parts should be pristine...Something here does not add up. Please contact Ford Customer Care and open up a formal complaint. Something needs to be addressed. There have been many glass repairs of vehicle from folks on these forums but this is a very rare occurrence with backlite and side window... Windshields...yeah...too many but not what you are experiencing. Sad to say but it sounds dealer related. Gotta keep the vehicle out of the dealership...

Thanks for your reply Phil.

I was hoping to avoid that but may have no choice. It gets even better after this morning.

The glass shop called me and said they had gotten in the new replacement side window and back glass. They said back glass looks good but side window has a scratch on it...straight out of the box! They said they would keep trying and order another one. It's almost comical at this point. No idea what is going on with the glass...both on the vehicle and the replacements. It's very depressing to have issues with a brand new vehicle...as I'm sure several can attest to.

Did they wash the truck at dealership?
Have seen one place using a mop on a stick. Could be cause.
I would ask for class shop to repair and Ford dealer flip bill.

Yes, I believe they did wash it there. Could definitely be the cause of the original damage. But wondering why the replacement glass from Ford is damaged straight out of the box?

I am going through a glass shop for the repairs. I'm hoping they can do a better job than the dealer. Although I believe the dealer contracts out their glass repairs to a different shop.

Meet with shop lead at glass place act professionally, go over issue and ask that they help you out. Be thankful and inspect work when finished. In future at your dealer, I would inspect all work performed before you leave. Also ask service agent to take care of you as you want to come back as long as you get good work. If they do not do well, switch dealers and tell owner you tried to work with them but money is leaving.

Thanks for that great advice. That is exactly what I plan to do. It's just a shame that I can't trust the dealer after making such a large purchase.

I've confirmed with them about 5 times...OEM glass they said...just like what came new on the truck. I believe they said it was made by Carlite for Ford.

Thought I'd give an update just in case anyone else might be experiencing glass issues. The glass shop had to order 2 back windows and 2 side windows before they got some that weren't damaged with scuffs and scratches. These were all brand new straight out of the box from Ford.

Even weirder is the stamp that is on the rear window. It has the Ford logo but says it is just Solar Tint and not Privacy Tint. However, this is obviously incorrect because it is the same tint darkness as the rear windows at 18% and not 70% transparency like the front side glass. Not sure if the factory just makes a run with no tint and stamps them all...and then adds the tint but doesn't restamp? Seemed odd to me but like I said...it is definitely appears to be privacy tint even though it isn't stamped as such. The glass shop confirmed the same when I brought it up.

So everything seems good right now...but stinks on a brand new truck to have such issues. It has taken some of the new luster away...hopefully I can get that feeling back.

Sounds like they have a good replacement for you. Once this is behind you, the new love for the Ranger will continue. Maybe try a different Dealer next time?
