I don’t think so. The key is one solid metal piece with no separate contact points. I had the good key in the truck with me when I tried using the bad key but the truck still would not start. So I think the actual key maybe at most an “antenna” for a very low powered signal from the key fob.
Well after a trip to the dealer on Monday and a second trip yesterday due to their key machine being down, I got my key replaced. Something in the keys electronics went faulty.

Well, I went out to move the Ranger today and one of my flip out keys would not start the truck. The truck turns on but won’t start. The dash displays no key detected.
