Is there a way to keep cruise control on when you first start up your truck?

My previous four vehicles, when I turned cruise control on, it would still be on when you restarted the car and you would just have to press set to activate it.

So far with the Ranger, I have to turn it on each time, listen to the chimes, then select Set.

Am I missing a setting that would allow the cruise to remain on?

Thanks

I don't think there is an option but I sure di wish there was. I had that capability on other vehicles and appreciated that I only need to press 'Set' to initiate it. Having to turn the feature on first was an annoying inconvenience.

Not possible. Out of the 7 Fords I've owned they all required you to turn it on except for 1. The only reason the 1 didn't is because it didn't have cruise control. It was an 84 Mercury Lynx.

Thanks for the replies. I guess Ford sees it as a safety thing.

FYI, my 2004 Honda Accord requires it to be turned on each time as well.

The only car I've had in the past 20 years that didn't reset cruise when the car is off had a sliding mechanical switch. Multiple manufacturers, foreign and domestic, all reset.

My Colorado doesn't require a reset and the cruise buttons are on the steering wheel.

Dumb...I've had other cars that have a toggle on/off for cruise...it was always left toggled ON and nothing surprising happened other than the cruse is always on so when I hit SET, it's set and not coasting down when I let off the gas thinking the cruse was on...please explain to me how this is a safety issue to have the cruise be on all the time??

I agree it's dumb, but some manufacturers do it that way. I'm sure they have a circular file for all the related complaints. (It's certainly nothing that would cost them a single sale...)

edit to add: most annoying thing about the one that has cruise control lock on is that the guys at the shop turn it off ever f'ing time I take it in and I have to actually turn it back on.

My last Two Acura’s (TSX and MDX) and my wife’s Honda Fit’s cruise stayed on. I can’t remember what my first generation Ford Escape did.

its just a 2 level safety feature, just like how your auxillary lighting is supposed to be wired through your high beams only.

imagine hitting that button at the wrong time by accident ....whether you expect it or not, the time lost wondering why you arent slowing down when you let your foot off the gas, might be all the lost time you need to plow into the stopping traffic ahead.
I hear you but this has never happened in all my years of driving...GM would be in a lot of law suits if this were the case...
